Happily relieved

Jul 28, 2007 - By Michael S. Johnson (Provo, UT USA)

I had previously owned a D-link 54 Mbps usb wireless-G network adapter which worked well but was fairly fragile and kept breaking every time it was bumped. I soldered it back together but after about 10 times it stopped working. I was looking for a cheep, quick replacement, being a poor PhD student. This is the replacement. It is produced by a little known company named LEVELONE. I was skeptical... I couldn't find any user ratings on it, but under $20 for a 108 Mbps usb network super G adapter sounded like a steal. I gave it a shot. I use it to pick up an open access network from the Car dealership across the street and it works GREAT! It was easy to install but there might be a red flag for XP and Vista users. During the installation of the supporting software this warning pops up "The software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP." The computer I use the adapter on has Windows XP and after 2 weeks of use I have had absolutely NO problems. So there doesn't seem to be any issues with XP at least. The range and speeds are noticeably better with this LEVELONE adapter compared to the D-Link I used before. It also seems to be more durable but only time will tell. I was worried about it getting really Hot and shutting down or at least hiccuping. I even tried downloading multiple files in concession to heat it up but it is dissipating the heat very well. I am very satisfied with this purchase. I was worried I would get an untested, over hyped piece of garbage but I am happily relieved. It's a steal for under $20.

Pleased

Aug 10, 2007 - By TylerJeremy (Tyler, Texas)

I bought the adapter for an 8 year old laptop that was given to me. I'm running Windows 2000 and I would have to say it wasn't as straight forward as I thought to get the adapter to work. But, I was able to ask a friend who works with computers to take a look at it and he had it working in about 15 minutes. Since then, I have used it in doing simple functions and playing some network games. It has worked beautifully for me and I would recommend it to anyone as of this point. I will edit my review if anything changes, but for now, you can't beat the price for the specs. The shipping was way faster than I ever thought it would be. I might buy another one for my desktop because it's so inexpensive.
Update: After I left this rating, I had issues with the adapter. The second time I tried to use the adapter on a new network, it would not work. I had a computer tech look at it and still didn't respond. I took a look at it a day later and tried the same things the tech tried and it then worked. We'll see if this happens again the next time I try a new network.

Inexpensive wieless adapter

It was a bit difficult to install but following a manual exactly did the job. After the initial installation it worked fine. I have installed this adapter on Dell Windows Me.
