Good monitor, good price.

(5 out of 5) by Zach Taylor on Sep 4, 2006 (Duluth, MN USA)
First, I want to say that I bought this on recommendation on a message board I frequent. (hint: the site doesn't exist)

I've been kind of hesitant to buy LCDs as I've heard of all of the potential problems, ghosting, dead/stuck pixels, no true black, etc.

After using this LCD for about 48 hours, I'd say these problems are blown way out of proportion..

The one I bought had 4 stuck pixels, however, I read online a quick way to fix most stuck pixels, and it worked perfectly for 3, but the last one is still there, but I hardly notice it, and I'm used to these as my DS has one.

Pros:
* Nice, bright, factory settings too bright for my taste, but they can be turned down.

* The monitor is clean, clear, and set up really easily..

* I'm ordering another one, due to the fact that my CRT looks like crap compared to this. (I have dual monitors)

* VERY minimal ghosting, I played CounterStrike:Source, World of Warcraft, and Splinter Cell Chaos Theory and the only ghosting I saw was my imagination, I moved it over to my CRT and saw the same thing, it was just me looking for problems.

* Buttons on the side, they're out of the way and not noticable unless you're looking for them.

Cons:

* Regular LCD problems, no dead pixels thankfully, but stuck pixels can be annoying, but thankfully they were minimal, and not in a very noticable location, also, if you're not looking at it straight on, the colors look darker, but this is a problem with all LCDs, not just this one.

* Buttons on the side, yes, I listed this in both pros and cons due to the fact that the side buttons make the monitor settings harder to adjust, but once you're used to it it's easy..

* Switching from CRT to LCD is hard, because this feels like it's hurting your eyes, but now, just 48 hours in, I feel like the CRTs hurt my eyes and my LCD is a relief compared to them..

Like I said, I'm ordering another one, and am really enjoying this monitor...

I'm going to split this into two ratings..

Switching from LCD to CRT: 4.5/5 stars (difficult at first, but it's a good switch to make)
*THIS* LCD: 5/5 stars

Now, in case you want to know the stuck pixel fix, simply take a damp cloth (damp to not scratch the screen, cloth to not put fingerprints, which is really easy) and take your finger inside the cloth and put your finger over a stuck pixel, turn off the monitor and apply pressure to the spot (enough to call it a poke, not a jab) turn on the monitor while still pushing and then release once the monitor is fully turned on.. If the pixel disappears, good, you did it right, if not, then you can try again, but I recommend only trying on each once or twice, because there are some things you just can't fix. This will only work on the red, green, or blue pixels, not the black ones (black are dead, red, green, or blue are stuck)

Excellent Deal for the Price

(5 out of 5) by SigmaEcho on Nov 1, 2006 (Chicago, IL United States)
**UPDATE** After nearly a year of using this monitor, I have to point out that the color and contrast are really, really poor. Most computer LCDs have a low contrast ratio, but the quality on this monitor is poor even by computer LCD standards. This monitor's flaws really stand out when you try and watch a movie. Since the whole point of a widescreen monitor is movies and games, I'm not sure I can recommend this model. Save your money and buy a Samsung instead.**

OfficeDepot had a sale on this monitor last weekend, and both our nearby stores were sold out within 48 hours. Luckily, we were able to get the display model with an additional discount, so we only paid $130 for this LCD, making it an amazing deal. No, it is not the best money can buy, but it might very well be the best bang for your buck available today (certainly at the price we paid!).

We had a bulky 18" CRT that took up all of our desk space, so we were anxious to get an LCD. At first, the image quality was not very impressive, but once we got rid of our downright ANCIENT video card, those problems went away, and the full richness of this monitor was revealed. This is the first widescreen display we have ever aquired (not including laptops), and it is the first time I've been able to take advantage of a digital video connection (DVI). I'm very happy that when I disconnected the old analog cable, the screen switched to the digital cable automatically, and I didn't have to change any settings. Perhaps the only real drawback is the cumbersom buttons on the the side of the monitor. They are hidden, which is probably a good thing, but not when you're trying to set it up for the first time. But more than that, they are difficult to push and you can't see them from the front, and the order of buttons is poor, so you'll have a hard time, but luckily you won't have to configure it very often, so it's a minor problem. I was surprised to learn that it has internal speakers, and for a moment I was excited at the idea that I could get rid of ours and clear some more desk space, but unfortunately, the internal speakers are completely worthless. Not a bid deal, since I didn't expect it to have speakers, I just want a good monitor, but it makes you wonder why they even bothered in the first place? Perhaps if they hadn't bothered, the price could be even lower. If they continue to produce this model, I would hope that they remove the speakers, and bring the price down a bit, and change the buttons so they are not as flush with the side and add grooves/embossing so they are not a headache to use.

Pros:
Low Price!!!
Widescreen HD Display (16:9) 1440x900 Screen Resolution
Very Bright, Colorful, Sharp High-res Picture
Wide Viewing Angle
Wall-Mountable
Tilting Base
Both Analog (VGA) and Digital (DVI) inputs, so it will work on computers both old and new.

Cons:
Worthless Internal Speakers
Annoying Buttons

Even at Amazon's current price ($180), this is still an amazing deal. Assuming that it doesn't break anytime soon, I highly recommend it. 5/5 stars at this price or lower, but I give it 4/5 overall, since it's not perfect. If you can find a cheaper Widescreen LCD, BUY IT!

Very satisfied, good value

(5 out of 5) by J. Moran on Oct 28, 2006 (Atlanta, GA USA)
I bought this to replace a 19" CRT because I wanted more space on my desk and I thought the extra horizontal inches would make it easier to keep >1 window open at a time. I'm very happy with it, especially because it was cheap. It does have few controls but I haven't felt the need to make any adjustments. I have not plugged in the speakers.

Currently I have it in a dual monitor configuration with a 17" SyncMaster 710N which was, I think, a mid-level monitor in its day. The SyncMaster looks just slightly sharper, as it should since it is only 17", but the HannsG has a whiter white which I prefer.

I love this monitor

I bought this monitor to replace my old 17" CRT and wow I'm so satisfied. No dead pixels, clear image and is beautiful.

Definitely a good purchase.
