Enough size--price was good--no wait time

(5 out of 5) by D. Clymer on Sep 18, 2008 (Upper Midwest, USA)
We had previously had a 1.1 CF Sharp Carousel so there was little that changed in programming. We nearly doubled space so that was nice. The price was reasonable & Amazon had the item in stock (versus their competition who told us they would email us when available). This was my first appliance purchased @ Amazon & I would not hesitate in buying something else in the future. So all in all, I'm happy with what I got & have recommended buying appliances such as this from Amazon if it ever comes up for them.

Pretty good

(5 out of 5) by K. Singer on Aug 29, 2009 (NJ)
I got a Sharp microwave to replace a 15 or 20 yr old one that pooped out. So far, so good. It has been used primarily for heating leftovers and steaming vegetables so I haven't given it a good workout in the month I've had it.

Amazon shipped it in a couple days even with the supersaver shipping (supposed to take 7-10 days).

If things go south, I'll be back with more comments.

My only concern was that I researched this quite a bit, using Consumer Reports and several other customer comment sites (including Amazon) but the reviews were so all over the place, I was frustrated in trying to find the PERFECT microwave, so I took a chance. Like I said, so far so good.

cons: i have to say the first microwave came in the door was totally lockup (the door would not open at all)

pro: it really big not the size as stated here a bet smaller space it takes up
13.5" ht x 18.5" front to back x 24" side to side (microwave housing case)
16.8"sq area food space to cook inside

this is a very good unit, only it need a battier to save the time in the clock other wise its a sweet unit

How did they break you? Let me count the ways

(3 out of 5) by sh on Oct 7, 2009
I don't disparage the item, but Oh, the delivery!

How did they break thee? Let me count the ways. They crushed and tore and poked your carboard skin; they beat your sturdy form until you bent and shattered. . .

The item comes shipped in the original Sharp factory carton. By the time it go to my front door, it was no longer a rigid object -- well, imagine putting a couple dozen glass Christmas ornaments inside large box with along with a steam iron and then repeatedly kicking the box with a heavy boot. The cardboard box was bent out of shape and torn, the carton tape was coming loose and all of the carton staples had come loose; the oven door could not be operated, and just carrying the carton from my porch to the entrance hall, before I had done anything to open the carton, left a trail of broken glass dripping from the holes in the carton like ice cream from a two-year old on a hot summer day. Amazon provided for immediate return. But oh! Has UPS no shame? Bad enough that it broke this thing so badly. But what's worse, I can't believe the UPS guy even delivered this carton; just holding the box you could tell the contents were seriously and irrevocably scrambled. I receive deliveries from UPS quite often and never have I seen anything like this.

Running through the reviews on the various microwave ovens available from Amazon, I estimate that about 1 in 20 or 30 are delivered totally unusable. It's a problem Amazon has not yet figured out how to deal with. Apparently 1 in 20 to 30 returns is cheaper than packaging the factory carton in a padded outer box or using a different delivery method.

I ordered a smaller oven, lighter oven in hope that the UPS folks wouldn't get as angry and might not kick my oven around.

Door was badly damaged/ Amazon return policy was great!

(1 out of 5) by Chipper - Michigan on Apr 5, 2009
After researching many different models, I decided to order the Sharp R-520LW. I was hoping that the microwave would be white (i.e., not black as some other Sharp models) and fortunately, it was white. Unfortunately, immediately after opening the box - I noticed that the door would not open. It turns out that there was a large crack at the bottom of the door and it would not even open. I could not tell by looking at the box if it was damaged during delivery but the box did not appear to be sturdy enough for a microwave of this size and weight. As a result, I decided not to try ordering the same product again. I must say that Amazon's return policy was great. I immediately sent the microwave back via UPS and promptly received my refund from Amazon. Despite the bad experience with this microwave, I would definitely order again from Amazon because of its return policy.
