Suprised

(5 out of 5) by saturns purchases on Feb 9, 2007 (Florida)
I have owned this product for about two weeks or so. The first few times I was out in traffic ,I really thought it was broken because it very rarely did anything !!!. I called whistler about it because I thought it was broken. The very infomative support person I talked to said It sounds like it is working ok. and that I would be suprised how many patrol cars do not use there radar.so I should try it for awhile first then If I am not happy send it to them. Well this AM I got into my car and turned it on in my driveway. it started going off!! I turned down the road the beeping went to a higher and higher # on the scale. about a mile down the road was a patrol car sitting in a school zone it then regged a 9 on the scale. So I am so pleased to say I love this product It does not seem to give alot of false alerts like other products on the market.

First rate detection - don't let low price scare you away

(5 out of 5) by M. G. Collins on May 14, 2007 (Columbia, MO United States)
The Whistler XTR-325 Radar/Laser Detector is a low priced radar detector offering much better performance then many other detectors that are priced the same or higher. The features list is good (dim/dark modes, POP detection), it's easy to use, range is very good - overall a great value.

My only two objections are the filtering (false alerts) is not quite perfect but tolerable, and the display should be brighter for easier viewing in bright sunlight. However, neither of these is show stoppers in my mind.

Not enough bang for your buck...

(3 out of 5) by Ian Toner on Dec 26, 2007 (Williamsville, NY United States)
I got this product thinking that it would be a great radar detector for $85, and it is. However, having occassionally used a Passport 8500, this radar detector is a major letdown. You can't choose an automatic mode--you must choose between City modes or a Highway mode. Additionally, the detection gives you very little warning...maybe 1000 feet at best for a cop using Ka on the highway (that will get you a ticket).

So, if you don't fly, but like to go 5-10 MPH over the speed limit and feel the need for a detector, then this is the detector for you. But if you like to go faster than that, then this detector will not be of any use to you.

Mine paid for itself the first day I used it...

(4 out of 5) by Eric T. Soderstrom on Sep 11, 2007 (Lake County, CA United States)
I'm not s "speeder" or a lead foot. But I do travel quite a bit by car on smaller highways. And there are times when EVERYBODY is traveling faster than the posted limit. There are also times where the speed limit seems to change every 200 yards. In these situations, it is handy to have a reminder to check your speed. My Touareg has a speed alarm that I keep set at 70. This is like an extra layer of protection.

I particularly like the "auto quiet" mode. It beeps loudly at first and then beeps quietly. We also enjoy playing, "Find the police car" when it goes off. Even more fun is when some jerk passes you and you know he is going to get nailed around the next turn.

The faceplates are a nice touch, but I think the color choices are a bit odd. I wish they had grey - or better yet - wood grain.

Great product and price!

(5 out of 5) by Melissa Hendricks on Aug 14, 2007 (Warner Robins, GA)
So far I love this radar detector. It produces less false warnings than did my previous Cobra radar detector. The red face plate is one main reason I bought this product as well. It matches my car very nice and I am very pleased with it. The only negative thing I find with the radar detector is the size, to me its a bit big but other than that it is the best one I have had so far!
