This GPX D1816SIL DVD Player with remote has BOTH great picture and sound and it's light and compact!!! And it's very affordable!!! Great for those who have kids and want a reliable but not expensive DVD player!!! My whole family enjoys it!!! Very recommended!!! Two thumbs up!!! Five stars A+

Went out on a limb and...

(1 out of 5) by T. Wheatley on Jan 30, 2009
I decided to give this one a chance since the price was so good and it was a compact player. It didn't play some of our DVD's correctly, and then it stopped working. Too bad, it sure cleared up some shelf space being so small compared to our old player. It also seemed like the disc tray was really fragile because it was so thin. I shipped it back and will probably go for a better name brand for a few extra bucks.

Worst I've ever owned

(1 out of 5) by Trouble on Dec 29, 2008 (Chicago, IL)
This thing really is awful. It's incredibly temperamental - it'll only play if the disk is absolutely pristine. The dvd's that I own seem to do well, but about 2 out of 3 disks I rent (or get through Netflix) refuse to play. The picture seizes up, or the sound keeps going while the screen turns black, or the whole thing just stops. Also, the remote control is ludicrous with its teeny tiny buttons, and all of them placed nonsensically - not at all user-friendly or intuitive.

I know you get what you pay for, but the thing should at least work half the time, don't you think? Save your money, don't buy this machine.

Good Value

(4 out of 5) by JerryL on Sep 28, 2008 (Sea Girt, NJ United States)
Purchased for the very occasional viewing of DVD's - and for playing Jeopardy which we received as a gift.
Unit works well, although we had problems with the open/close button on the machine. Amazon was quick to replace it with another.
So far, the replaced player is working very nicely. Especially like how compact it is!
For the price, it's an excellent choice for our needs.
Would have rated it 5 stars had we not had the problem with the initial machine.
