Amazed

Used this once and was amazed. Wish I had it years ago when my child was young-plays, recitals, etc.

Not Great but Pretty Damn Good!

(4 out of 5) by V. Johnson on May 19, 2008 (Brookville, OH USA!)
Got this thing as a gift about 5 weeks ago, and my primary use of it right now is hanging it on my 3-year-old grandson. I really don't care much for the little box microphone -- I'd happily pay more for a transmitter that clips on a belt, with a little wire and microphone -- something like I use at work. Although the microphone is not really so noticeable, my grandson keeps fooling with it. BUT audio quality is a terrific improvement over the built-in mic -- at least you receive less ambient noise -- not necesarily better sound quality, just better sound from the main subject. It's REALLY easy to use, the receiver clips onto the camera easily; the transmitter clips onto a shirt or sweater nicely (complaints about the quality of the clip I don't understand), and the lanyard works nicely (except for that scratchy little section of it that seems to always fit right at the back of the subject's neck. There's gotta be a way around this), but I think the armband is silly. I HATE that stupic little black storage bag, and am searching for the right little plastic box to store it in. All-in-all, I am really happy with this, it captures audio realy well, it's easy to use, and does what I expect of it.

A decent consumer grade wireless mic

(4 out of 5) by Michael E. Whatley on Jan 9, 2007 (altadena, ca)
Too often, otherwise good content is diminished because of poor audio.

This device is an excellent way to get better audio. I've used it successfully with a subject over 100 feet from the camera. It's made of plastic. So don't skate board with it.

Mixed bag; read before buying

(3 out of 5) by Charles G. Hawley on May 30, 2009 (Santa Cruz, CA)
The audio from this mic and receiver is very good. We have shot over 200 videos on our website using this combination and the sound is not the problem. What we do have a problem with is the bulk of the microphone which is very difficult to conceal in a shirt or jacket. I guess if you're shooting a conversation with a flower arrangement between the speakers it would work fine, but for a single speaker on camera, it's very bulky - about half the size of a deck of cards. The second issue is that it uses up batteries like crazy. It uses to AAA alkaline disposables, and sometimes we get only an hour or so out of a pair of them. Perhaps our microphone is defective, but that seems unreasonable.

What I would really like is a Bluetooth microphone with the normal small wired mic and a small battery pack/transmitter.

OK product

(3 out of 5) by MayaMama on Aug 27, 2008 (Spring Lake, MI USA)
I bought this product about one month ago, and have used it quite a few times since buying it. I used it for recording at a open mic, and it did all right. There was still a lot of background noise on this, and the scratching sound was very audible, even with the wind sock on it. The neck carrier that comes with this is not near as bad as others have described it. It would be nice to have a different lapel clip though. Over all the sound recorded is of very good quality and the range is very good as well.
