New Pioneer fan
First of all this unit is way beyond basic especially at the Amazon.com price. I'll explain....
WOW.... This this unit rocks!! This is my first Pioneer and now I'm kicking myself for not buying pioneer before. The best parts of this stereo for me are:
Great price, awesome internal crossovers for your highs and lows. Aux in jack for MP3 players, remote, Satellite ready, plays mp3's and wma's,strong internal amp. Very clean sound. Not just loudness setting but 3 levels of loudnes, built in EQ that can be fine tuned, Source level adjustments for all sources, and did I mention great price?. I don't think I've ever owned a stereo that sounds this good. YOu can even hook a rca plug from DVD players, VCRs, etc into this stereo.
The bad, yes there are a few but nothing major. The display is tough to read in bright sunlight. The volume and source button are the same (sometime while adjusting the volume I'll accidentally change the source too) although using the remote instead prevents this.
All in all it can be summed up into 1 word "WOW". Don't be fooled into buying pretty motorized face plate system that will stop motorizing after a year and have crappy sound like I did. Buy this Pioneer, you won't regret it.

Worth the Money
I was looking for a Tuner/CD player to replace the AM/FM Cassette that came with my six year old Honda. While this unit is very basic, it makes the speakers in the car sound a heck of a lot better.
On the Plus side: the ability to play MP3 and WMA discs (I can now carry around a single disc with almost 200 Beatle tunes as opposed to 10 or 12 individual CDs), a choice of six "Equalizer Curves" enables you to tailor the sound to your tastes, Bass Boost and Loudness control settings to add more depth at lower volume, 18 preset buttons for FM stations and 6 more for AM, and the removable Head Unit comes off and goes back on quite easily. Not to mention a Remote Control! The ability to hook up external units is also a major plus.
On the Minus side: there are buttons on the Head Unit for AUDIO, setting the EQUALIZER, BAND (AM or FM), DISPLAY, CLOCK, and FUNCTION as well six more buttons for selection of the radio stations. That's a lot of small buttons in a small area. Easy to hit the wrong one by mistake. Also the Operations Manual could be a bit clearer. The directions for setting the clock, for example, made it sound more difficult than it actually was.
On balance the Positives about this unit far outweigh the Negatives. It's a nice deck at a reasonable price that will improve the sound of your car stereo and enhance your enjoyment of whatever style of music you like.

pIONEER
EXCELLENT PRODUCT, JUST WHAT I EXPECTED. THE ONLY PROBLEM, THERE IS NOT A MUTE BUTTON ON THE RECEIVER SO YOU HAVE TO DEPEND ON THE REMOTE CONTROL TO MUTE
Classy
The pioneer DEH4800MP receiver performs excellently. My only difficulty was understanding its many features. Now that I am familiar with it, I think it is the right stuff for anyone's ride. I love it and intend to make a similar for my brother.
Great radio for the price
Gets the job done. Great sound for the price. You can not go wrong with this radio. Highly recommended.
