The best ergonomic keyboard

(5 out of 5) by C. Hayes on Oct 22, 2009
Oct 2009. I have been in the computer business for 30 years. I have tried many keyboards. This one is the best. The Microsoft Natural 4000 started out bad and kept getting worse but it was the only game in town for a while. Not any more. Initially, the keyboard letters would last about a year on the 4000. On my last one they lasted about a month. I'm a touch typist so it's not a big deal, but I occasionally do need to see the letters. Also, the space bar knew how to do one space ok on the 4000, but not multiple spaces in a row... it would often skip/drop spaces. I am typing on the Adesso / Tru-form now and am loving it. Keypad pressure is just right, and the space bars work great. Highly recommended. I would say more about Microsoft but Amazon would edit out the bad language.

A good product at a great price

If you have ergonomic issues using when writing, the Adesso ergonomic keyboard will almost certainly ameliorate some or all of them. The keyboard is intelligently designed, the features all work, and there is, generally speaking, enough room between the palm pads and the keys that your fingers will act naturally when computing.

I was a little skeptical that something this cheap could perform as well as it has for me. As a professional writer-editor and a person that has written 1,000 Internet reviews, I am using this thing all the time. In the past I've been beset by elbow and shoulders inflammation from the amount of time I spend at the keyboard. I've had no relapse of any condition in the years I've used the Adesso ergonmic keyboard. When used in combination a good ergonomic chair with adjustable armpads and an ergonmoic mouse pad, you should be in good shape when using this instrument.

I was also surprised that the upper tier specialty keys all worked when I touch them. These include keys for Home, Favorites, E-mail, Volume, Mute, Play/Pause and Stop. In the past, I had to program my PC to use these keys but they seem intuitive on this keyboard. Not so with the Power, Sleep and Wake Up keys at the upper right, however. Guess I'm supposed to do something with them to get them to work. Also, the L key on the keyboard does not seem to depress like the others. I often have to hit it hard with my right ring finger to ensure it works. It always does but the touch element isn't as good there. In addition, the keyboard could be longer from top to bottom to allow my hands to completely relax. I have to use a modificed "hammer finger" technique to consistently type at professional speed.

Still, these are small complaints about a very fine instrument. I'd give this a higher grade except it hasn't lasted long enough for that. Still, this is the best of the batch I tested when I bought a new ergonomic keyboard. My old one didn't have a USB connection; this one does so it's good to go with all PCs. I'd recommend this to anyone seeking a cost-effective ergonomic keyboard.

Backspace key takes a sledge hammer to use

(4 out of 5) by B. Pearce on Mar 31, 2009 (Oklahoma)
I love this keyboard with this one exception. It takes a sledge hammer to use the backspace key. All the others are great, I actually like the keys on this keyboard better than Microsoft's ergo keyboard. I have tried to find a solution to the terrible backspace key, but to no avail. It's not enough for me to return this, but I sure wish it wasn't so hard to depress this one key. Sometimes I think I'm going to break my finger just trying to mash this key to go back whenever I make a mistake and unfortunately, I type so fast that I make a lot of mistakes! Would I recommend this keyboard to others? Absolutely. My keyboard is probably a fluke. If it weren't for this one issue, and the fact that Microsoft's version has a padded wrist rest, I would rate this one 5 stars.

Doesn't always work

(1 out of 5) by Hazel Baby on Mar 4, 2009
The first one of these keyboards I ordered didn't work, so I exchanged it for a new one. This one worked fine for a few months. Now it will simply stop registering with the computer and I have reboot to get it to recognize I have a keyboard plugged in. I do NOT recommend this keyboard based on the problems I have had.

Great ergo keyboard for PC but has no adjustable height

(5 out of 5) by Bonzi on Jan 12, 2009
I had to replace my previous Adesso ergo keyboard (I spilled coffee in it and then cat chewed through cord). I tried Logitech's wave keyboard which is slightly curved but really not a true ergonomic design and my wrists began to hurt, so I got this one which was identical to my original. It's fabulous. I love the placement of keys, but that may be just habit (some users may not like 3 x 2 layout of insert/delete/home/end/up/down, especially if you tend to hit the insert key accidentally). The one I received was not exactly the same as Amazon's picture, but the only difference is where they put the Adesso logo, everything else is the same I think.

Some caveats:
1. You can't adjust the height! I've never seen a keyboard without little adjustable feet, but this one is just one big chunk of plastic angling up at the back for a total of just over 2 inches high. This is the perfect height for my needs but watch out if you want to adjust it.
2. It has fixed keys for PC use, whereas the Logitech wave keyboard showed which keys were Option and squiggle for Mac.
3. It's heavy - I don't know why, maybe they used industrial-strength plastic. But the quality looks and feels great so it's not apparent that this was a cost saver. One nice aspect of being heavy and having good rubber pads is that it doesn't slide around your desktop like my Logitech wave does.

Overall, an excellent product and incredible value. I received it from Tech For Less within days using priority shipping.
