Not bad for the price

(3 out of 5) by S. McCauley on Nov 29, 2009 (Kansas City, MO USA)
I bought one of these and had one of the metal solder points break off the socket as I was screwing the light bulb in. This apparently caused pretty good short, as it tripped the breaker for that whole room. It's not that upsetting though... it's about what I would expect for a $13 lamp. I honestly think these are decent for the price... just be careful with them: they are pretty fragile.

You get what you pay for

(3 out of 5) by Vygramul on Aug 15, 2009 (Annandale, VA United States)
These lamps are not really for anyone who is looking for quality aesthetics. As some of the bad reviews state, the following down-sides are important to note:

- The lamp bowl is cheap plastic and you should be grateful if they're symmetrical. In addition, the trim is not attached with glue or anything, so it comes off fairly easily and it doesn't quite go all the way around the bowl

- The lamp is short. If you're over 6' you'll be able to see into it without difficulty.

- The base is not quite as heavy as I would like to insure stability, but I haven't had any real problems. But if you have children or dogs, this might be an issue.

Having said that, if all you need is illumination without a serious desire for aesthetics or quality, then these seem like the lamps to get:

- It takes a 3-way bulb up to 100 watts
- It assembles fairly easily
- It seems reliable enough to do its primary job: provide light

Given the price of (currently) under $13, if illumination is all you need or care about, then I recommend the lamp.

Worth a lot more !

(5 out of 5) by Joan E. Ebberts on Mar 29, 2009
I purchased this lamp for my very dark living room. It's wonderful. Since it uses up to a 100 watt bulb, it gives me all the light I need.

Now, I read the reviews only giving the lamp 1 or 2 stars...

1. The lamp IS sturdy if you take the time to put the poles together correctly. Each section of the pole has a small bump on it--line that bump up to the ridge in the pole above it, wiggle into place, then turn the pole slightly and it will lock into place.

2. As for the shade locking ring... if you look carefully , you will see that the ring actually has 2 parts--the inner tube and an outer ring. Remove from the lamp, put the shade in place, line the locking tube up with the center of the lamp and screw it down as far as you can--THEN, while holding the inner tube steady, simply screw down the RING. It's the ring part that holds the shade in place.

I will make a suggestion to the company to re-write the instructions to make the assembly a bit clearer.
Other than that--I LOVE my new lamp!!

Serves it's purpose- needs a switch option

(3 out of 5) by Liesel Phillips on Mar 2, 2009 (Fort Campbell, KY)
I knocked this over and it broke. The touch sensor doesn't work anymore. I tried taking it apart... I don't know who I thought I was : ) I couldn't fix it. It would be nice if this had a manual switch option on the pole somewhere for just this reason. I now have to unplug it to shut it off or turn it on... Bummer. Also, the shade is pretty cheapy looking.
