Blaupunkt THw1000 Subwoofer

(5 out of 5) by P. Curbelo on Oct 28, 2009 (Miami, FL)
I currently have this 10" sub in a .8 cu. ft. box being powered by an Alpine Monoblock 300watt RMS amp and it sounds much better than I expected. It has a solid design and a durable grille to protect it. The only negative is that it still requires a roughly .8cu.ft. box for optimum performance just as an average sized sub of similar performance would require. Regardless, at least a thinner (but wider) box can be built to save space. It hits all ranges very well compared to other similar thin subs and even the average regular 10" sub. I simply cannot complain about this sub.

Surprised! Twice!

(4 out of 5) by A. Hummel on Dec 5, 2008
First surprise: This woofer is very thin for its size, giving the option of building a very thin box for it.

Second surprise: In a very thin box for the very thin sub, I found a sound that was anything but thin. This is not a woofer to set off car alarms with, but performs exceptionally within the cabin. This unit can be tuned (at your amplifier) to blend in with your music for a more studio/theatrical sound, or can dominate the sound system, to give power to bass-heavy tracks such as rap and techno.

All the usual rules apply: Choose your box carefully! I loaded mine into a slightly oversized sealed box with the intention of bringing out a more mellow, cinematic sound. This unit delivers that in spades. I spent a long time turning the crossover on my amp lower and lower to get there. This sub's suspension is stiff enough to play a midbass role, but begs for a small sealed box to do the job.

Thin mount 10" sub is an excellent value for <$30

The Blaupunkt THw1000 has a mounting depth of less than 3", yet it provides the full, satisfying bass of a 10" sub with twice the mounting depth. At less than $30 on clearance from authorized dealer Midwest Electronics, it represents an excellent bargain for those looking to mount a sub in unusual places, such as underneath a car seat or in a car door.

Note that despite having a shallow mounting depth, the THw1000 requires about the same enclosure size as a normal sub, which means that you can use it in very shallow, albeit large, enclosures.
