NEC MultiSync 90GX2 19" a Great Monitor

(4 out of 5) by J. Rubinstein on Jan 19, 2006 (Beaverton, OR)
01/20/05 Update - I have used this monitor for several days and very impressed with the quality of the picture. It even looks good in a bright room. Highly recommended for text, photo editing and gaming. I am a computer tech and photographer and very fussy about what I like.

I brought the NEC 90GX2 monitor several days ago and very satisfied so far. There are no dead pixels and the screen is bright with very clear text (I replaced a Dell 19" CTR which had very blurry text). I am into digital photo editing and am an online game player. Photographs look great and Call of Duty 2 looks great with no ghosting or other effects. It does have an OptiClear screen that's very reflective and I would recommend looking at the display before purchase. In some environments it may have a reflection problem.

The reason I only gave it a 4 is due to the poor documentation. It comes with a manual that doesn't clearly explain all the setup controls. You can download NaViSet software that gives on screen adjustment of the display. It's a free download form NEC. It's nifty software but NEC doesn't offer any online instructions on how to set the controls and some of the settings have no clear descriptions. I called NEC tech support, very short hold time. The problem was the tech new less then I did about NaViSet software and had to call someone else and still wasn't able to answer all my questions.

I would recommend this monitor if you can afford the $500 price tag. It comes with a 3-year warranty and has well designed case.

BEST 19' LCD MONITOR YOU CAN BUY!!!!

(5 out of 5) by Swifty on Feb 24, 2006 (USA)
It took me a long time before I made the lcd switch. I had a Sony 19' flat trinitron crt monitor considered by many to be one of the best monitors for its time. I thought no lcd can ever come close to it and to my surprise the Nec 90gx2 blew it out of the water in every aspect. I have never seen such clarity and color vibrance. Its peformace to me is flawless. The NEC truly convinces the most skeptical.

It's worth every penny. The one lcd that does it all!!!

High Quality Craftsmanship

(5 out of 5) by Vincenzo Francis on Jan 23, 2007 (San Francisco, CA USA)
I'm using it right now! I've done extensive research, and this one is top of the line. NEC makes first rate computer monitors and has the top market share among small computer LCDs. Do yourself a favor and shell out the extra cash.

This monitor is in a very bright room for the past few months and I have NEVER had any problems with glare. Plus the refresh rate is the fastest currently available.

Expensive but Uncompromising

(5 out of 5) by Timothy Medora on Jan 22, 2007 (Phoenix, AZ)
It was a bit tough for me to swallow the price tag for TWO of these... but after shopping around and looking at many flatscreens (including widescreens) I decided to opt for 2 NFC 90GX for my home computer. I do mostly multimedia at home, such as pictures, video, and music, and having a decent, servicable, clean display is important to me.

GOOD
- Bright, Sharp, Vivid

- Screen filter does an amazing job of bringing out colors and giving a pleasing "shiny" (but not excessive) look to the display.

- DVI and Analog connection instantly recognized by both Vista and XP.

- Built in active USB 2.0 bus (great for attaching peripherals that are far away from the computer itself).

- Intuitive controls and on-screen display.

BAD
- Twice the price of other (but not comparable!) 19" displays.

- You may want to actually turn DOWN the brightness. These are very, very bright right out of the box.

Overall, highly recommended.

Worth the Extra Money

(5 out of 5) by Pileated on Nov 18, 2006 (CT, USA)
I've had a Sony Trinitron CRT for many years and even though it still works fine, I decided that I wanted something that takes up less space and uses less electricity. Looking at the vast array of LCD monitors at Best Buy, the one that clearly stood out was this NEC. I hadn't intended to spend this much for a monitor, but the image quality is so much better than the competition that I sprung for it anyway.

For basic computing the NEC is great. I've found that I need to turn the brightness down to 50% (especially when using a white background word processor), which is surprising since my notebook LCD needs to be on 100% for most things. But the NEC's screen is brilliant, wonderful saturation of colors and great resolution. Watching DVD movies on it has made me wonder about buying an LCD TV rather than paying more for a plasma. Even gaming is better on the NEC, and I hadn't expected this. In some renditions of smoky/hazy scenes the image is a bit odd, but it's nothing to complain about.

The glossy finish on the screen isn't a problem in terms of glare. It's no worse than the Sony CRT. The controls on the NEC are much better than those on the Sony, and I like the fact that it has USB 2.0 ports on the side. And as for power use, the NEC uses half what the Sony did, and I think the LCD monitor is much nicer to look at for my uses.
