Big improvement over the LF-150

(5 out of 5) by N. Cumberland on Feb 13, 2006 (Texas)
I own this subwoofer along with 5 Omnisats to complete the system. This thing produces incredibly low and powerful bass. I own the previous subwoofer from Mirage - the LF-150, and the s12 completely blows it out of the water. It is much improved - has some serious impact and will really make things rumble. I have had to turn it down lately - I live in an apartment and received my first noise complaint. I can't wait until I move into a house and can turn it back up to full levels. It really is an incredible value, especially with what Vanns is offering it at - well worth the money. I purchased mine for about a hundred bucks more than Vanns and thought I got a steal! If you are on a budget but want some really strong subwoofer for both music and movies, this is the one! It also blends wonderfully with the Omnisats.

Definetely worth auditioning

(5 out of 5) by Kelsci on Jan 15, 2006 (Margate, Fl. USA)
My brother bought a set of 5 Mirage Omnistats and the S-12 Sub. The sub is is fine for both music and movies. The bass is tight and clean. I do not see why this sub could not blend in with other speaker systems. The controls are up at the front which makes for easier adjustment. He had a 10 inch Klipch playing on the same system but that could not compare to the sound quality of the S-12. The Klipsh rattles walls while the S-12 produces definitive tight bass.

tremendous value for the money

(5 out of 5) by Eduardo Nietzsche on Jan 22, 2006 (Houston)
...this sub is comparable to the Hsu STF-3 which costs about six hundred dollars plus shipping, except that it's front instead of downfiring. The flagship subwoofer from Mirage, this normally retails at eight hundred so Vann's current four hundred shipped pricing is really a steal.

One nice advantage of the front-firing design is that if you live in an upstairs apartment, it will annoy your downstairs neighbors a little less. Also I kind of like having the extra flexibility of turning the driver to point at various odd angles towards the wall behind it if I want extra output.

Very clean, elegant looking design---my only gripe is that you have to remove the front grille in order to get to the gain, crossover, phase, and defeat controls. On the other hand if you have kids and don't want them to mess with these things it could be a plus. The power switch, sub input, and speaker level inputs are on the rear which curiously don't have the amplifier heat fins that most subs have. I noticed that this sub barely got warm after an hour's strenuous workout on my friend's subwoofer demo DVD which had tons of high-LFE clips from various movies.

I have a 6000 cubic foot living space and this sub had very adequate output, so in a smaller room it should be even more powerful. As soon as I add a Behringer Feedback Destroyer to equalize all the room nodes, it should be even better! Granted, a sealed subwoofer might've been better for music but the extra SPL from the dual-ported design really comes in handy in such a large space and especially during movies. In any case, this subwoofer easily demolishes all the lousy Sony, Polk, and Infinity subwoofers you find at the big box chain stores like Best Buy and Circuit City which cost the same or more.

This bass is something different...this is physical and induces panic. I love it.

I cannot believe this subwoofer. I have owned several subs and in my day have been in lots of cars with 15 inch woofers pointed right at your face but this Mirage S12 is something different. I plugged this into a Harmon Kardon AVR 745 and watched a DVD with an optical connection and the bass I "heared", more like experienced, was unbelievable. This bass is so clear, so accurate, and so powerfull it almost picks at the human instinct to fight or flee. No joke! My wife, after yelling at me, told me she felt the same experience. I got this bad boy for 500 bucks. I would have payed $5000!!!
