Plugged it in and works

(5 out of 5) by PattiMc on Jun 27, 2008 (Western New York)
Purchased to be used with both MBP & iMac for faxing docs direct from computer. Configured quickly with very little effort. No issues.

Only complaint is with Apple -- why couldn't they include this little part on the machines??

Inferior Modem

(1 out of 5) by Hopefully wiser on Jan 7, 2008
The Apple USB Modem is an inferior product. It will not reliably connect nor stay connected. You must derate the speed to 28K baud or lower to obtain a workable connection. In contrast, using a PC with an old serial modem on the same phone line provides consistently good connection of 44K baud or better, without connection problems.

Additionally, the original modem delivered by Amazon was electronically defective. Apple did replace it with one that has not caused kernel panics, at least yet.

Modem is what it is, no more

(4 out of 5) by Jesse Milton on Dec 3, 2007 (Lilburn, GA United States)
Product works perfectly as it should. Plug it in, and Mac OS recognizes it immediately without any fuss. It is appropriately smaller and more stylish than other third party USB modems.

I purchased this modem to enable my 2.0 GHz Mac Mini to send and receive faxes.

Apple external modem

(5 out of 5) by P. Mrozinski on Jul 7, 2007 (Historic Mineral Point WI)
For anyone with a Mac that needs a dial up modem, this is definitely the one you want. I've used other brands over the years and yes, they worked, but not without loading more software or doing special configuring. When this small modem is first plugging into the Mac, it is immediately seen as a new port. Once you input your ISP info, it just works.
It was only $3 more than it's next competitor, but worth way more than that in the design and convenience. Also because of it's tiny size, it's easy to throw into your laptop bag for those rare occasions of not being able to connect to high speed while traveling.

It is small and very well designed, as always with apple. Works perfect.
