Great monitor! I highly recommed it!

(5 out of 5) by Artistry Home on Feb 22, 2006 (Miami, FL)
I looked online for a few days looking for the absolute best deal on LCD screen monitors. I was tempted to get a "generic" brand for less, because they had somewhat good customer reviews, but this monitor from Samsung just kept calling my name... I searched many sites trying to find consumer reviews before buying, but I couldn't manage to find any. Regardless, I decided to go ahead and purchase this from Amazon, knowing that I have the option to return it in case it wasn't up to my expectations.

What can I say... I was pleasantly surprised when I opened it and got it set up and running. No dead pixels whatsoever, the screen is very bright, but not tiring on the eyes, the resolution is great, the weight and size are perfect, it is exactly what I was looking for! The 17" screen is also just perfect, not too small, not too big, just right!

I do highly recommend this monitor. I wanted to post this review for buyers out there considering purchasing it, but passing it because of lack of reviews: Buy it! - You won't be disappointed!

Great for my workplace computer

(5 out of 5) by Concerned One on Sep 19, 2006 (Clarinda, IA)
In my hospital system they just replaced all of the monitors and cpu's on our wing, and I am pleasently surprised that they chose this nice of a monitor. Large display as compared to the 15 inch huge box of a unit I had previously. The resolution setting is 1280x1024 right now with the cheap videocard the hospital bought running at max. There is no flicker or blurring, very sharp picture, doesn't give me a headache as much as the old unit. Easy to use fron on/off control buttons with onscreen set up. The cords and cables are concealed underneath as shield at the back, keeps some of the eyesore hidden. I would be happy to take this home to my computer anyday. Recommended, reasonable value it looks like as well.

Excellent monitor that I have at my office, works great, great resolution.

I have had this monitor for about 5 months now, and have been 100% satisfied with it. It has a clear picture with a nice high resolution, and beats the heck out of the big box i had. It has the quality of being a samsung as well. Resolution with the video card in my computer goes to 1280 x 1024. Their is likely a newer version of this monitor available with potentially better resolution by now, but this is a tough one to beat. This model is 17 inches, their is likely a 19" and 21" model of this monitor as well, which with samsung you will keep great resolution even getting the larger monitor. Samsung also make a great 19" widescreen that runs between $200 and $230 at most places, resolution is 1400 x 900 for the models I have seen. But, for a great NAME BRAND monitor at a decent price, this would be an affordable option. Compare, and I think you will see this is true

Great monitor - just the right size

(5 out of 5) by R. Mabe on Jul 23, 2006 (Fresno, CA.)
I am very happy with this monitor, the blacks are perfectly dark even when playing games like FEAR, and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. The frame of the monitor even matches my new computer. Very easy to set up. It comes with extra software that I installed at first, but I don't really use it so I don't think there is too much need for it. Great monitor.

Good Performing LCD Monitor for the Price

(4 out of 5) by Jeffrey Douglass on Feb 24, 2007 (Poway, CA USA)
This Samsung 740N LCD monitor has been a good purchase for general multi-purpose computer use.

Positive Comments: The display quality is uniformly good in all kinds of applications form word processing to web browsing to working with photographic images. Though not specifically marketed for photographic & graphic arts work, this monitor does a good job for non-professional level work. The control & adjustment buttons and menus are logical & easy to use. The housing and stand seems sturdy. The monitor functioned perfectly out of the box without any bad pixals visible.

Negative Comments: I'm using this monitor with an early Pentium computer and graphics card running Windows XP. The supplied software would not play correctly on my computer as set up. I finally deleted all software supplied by Samsung and reverted to using the graphics card driver and the monitor adjustment buttons to optimize the monitor image. For photographic image work, this monitor tends to be too high in brightness and contrast. But with careful adjustment, I'm able to make it display very nice looking photographic images.

When considering the purchase price, this is a very nice monitor.
