Warning Concerning Manufacturer Equipment Warranty

(4 out of 5) by J on Mar 8, 2007 (Worcester, Ma)
First, this is an excellent product and I purchased it after consulting with several people. However, a word of caution to everybody concerning the Panamax warranty for equipment connected to this. Panamax specifically outlines on its website that it will NOT cover costs associated with damage to your equipment if this item is not purchased from specific, Panamax approved vendors. After I made the purchase, I learned that many internet purchases are void of this guarantee. Buyers should make their own informed decision about whether or not to purchase this item from a Panamax approved vendor. If you want the product at the best price and the equipment coverage isn't important to you, then shop around. If you are purchasing it in part to get the coverage, check out Panamax website for a details on the vendors they recognize and honor regarding equipment coverage.

Saved the day...

(5 out of 5) by J. Schaeffer on Oct 23, 2009
I have my entire living room setup protected by this Panamax. Not long ago, a contractor digging with a backhoe accidentally tore into my power line in my front yard. A large power fault occurred at that time, literally smoking three strip surge protectors in my house (APC's that saved the equipment plugged into them...)

The surge also blew out my refrigerator and a GFCI outlet in my garage.

Everything connected to the Panamax was perfectly fine, and the Panamax is still operating just fine. (The safest thing to do would be to probably replace it sometime soon...) - but it did it's job magnificently and I suppose the line conditioning is helping extend the lifespan of my electronics. My voltmeter regularly fluctuates between 112 and 125.

This is a very attractive unit and I am very satisfied with its functions.
This is the third Panamax that I've owned and I have been very satisfied with all of them.

Fair Unit

(2 out of 5) by Apu2001 on Feb 15, 2009 (Hagerstown, MD USA)
Voltage display is for incoming voltage, not the outgoing voltage. I would rather see the voltage my equipment is receiving. Unless this unit does not regulate the output, only suppress transients. I'll check with my multimeter next time. How much more would of an amp reading cost to design? For $500 I would of expected that extra reading to be displayed, but I got mine for 230 so cant complain too much. The power button which turns off two of the banks sometimes works and sometimes doesn't when held in for 2 seconds. Again this would of been unacceptable at the 500 price range. No specs for the utility output on the front panel. Is this protected too? and on what bank is it attached too? Manual not clear on this.
Blue LED's look nice and you can dim them. There are four levels of brightness so you are not distracted by them while watching your favorite movie.
