Worst user interface I've ever encountered
Over most of the feature set, this model actually delivers what you'd expect out of an Alpine stereo. The problems start when you try to use the much-touted Glide Touch strip - and unfortunately, that's a deal-breaker. You can't operate the unit using only standard controls.
The problems with the Glide Touch strip are twofold: first, the GlideTouch is infuriatingly slow for navigating large lists, such as, say, the list of artists or albums on your iPod; and second, the same tactile surface serves as both navigation tool and confirmation button. One bump and you're listening to Shakira instead of Skinny Puppy. And did I mention you have to then start at the top of the list and navigate from scratch? There are other problems as well, but the long and short is that there's really no saving this user experience; it renders the unit almost completely inoperable while driving.
I wish the designers could see my wife trying to use this thing as a passenger; it can literally take ten or fifteen minutes to find an artist on my iPod that is locatable within seconds using the iPod itself. Usually, she gives up and switches to the radio.
Did Alpine not do even the most basic of user testing? Shame upon all of us: on Alpine for releasing this monstrosity, on the salesperson who recommended it, and on me for being such a bad consumer that I bought it.

Horrible...Stay away!
Besides most of these being defective at time of purchase...the sound quality is horrible and is very user unfriendly. I owned this for three days too long. You'll think the glide is kind of cool at first, but try driving and making any kind of sound adjustments. It's a pain. This should be a 0 Star rating but that option was unavailable. Get a Pioneer...very user friendly and sounds great. I have the Pioneer 8600 and it's about the same price and you won't be disappointed.
