Outstanding Monitors

(5 out of 5) by LA Filmmaker on May 30, 2007 (Los Angeles)
I'm a producer/director/editor at a network television production company. We've used these M-Audio BX5a monitors in most of our edit bays for several years now and have been very pleased with their performance. They produce crisp, clear sound for voice, music and effects. They're solid, look nice and feature cool blue pilot lights on front between the woofer and tweeter.

Highly recommended for post-production audio.

Good sounding monitors!

(5 out of 5) by Shawnuff on Jun 27, 2007 (La Crescenta, CA USA)
I think these speakers sound great. They have enough power (70 watts/monitor bi-amped) that they're punchy and tight. I haven't directly compared them to other monitors but I have enough listening experience that I think they'll compare favorably to any monitors in the same price range. For a smaller-size monitor these have quite a big, even sound.

Clean

(5 out of 5) by Michael Koert on Apr 29, 2008 (USA)
What ever audio you put in is what you get out. Nothing gets in the way with these speakers. Clean flat sound, I hear every low and high from these. They kick pretty well for their size.

Excellent "uncolored" sound across the whole audio spectrum

(5 out of 5) by L. Williams on Nov 29, 2008 (Clearwater, FL, USA)
I did an exhaustive bit of research and testing at my local audio shop, comparing these WONDERFUL B5Xa's to monitors double and triple the price. M-audio has done an amazing bit of engineering in these small wonders. They're terrific for mixing music, which means they're not too heavy in the bass, midrange or top end. I use them daily to listen to my music catalog on iTunes, and the sound is so crisp and sweet, I'm hearing things I've never heard before in music I'm very familiar with.

These speakers (actually called reference monitors) are design for sound mixing, so no single area of the audio spectrum has been tweaked or sweetened, as is common with most consumer speakers. The frequency response is nearly flat from 40 Hz to 20,000 Hz, which means that you're actually hearing what the original sound engineers intended when the recordings were made.

There's a new Deluxe version of the B5xa's that's recently come out, and M-audio's PR says they sound even better, which I find hard to believe. These little gems are a steal, and rank with VERY expensive audiophile components. Connect them via a Y cable to your Mac or PC and enjoy sound that blows Bose, Yamaha and Harmon Kardon speakers away. Grab 'em while they're still available!

Great For It's Price

(4 out of 5) by Ellyson Matsui on Jun 5, 2008 (San Diego)
I just got these speakers today. I've read mixed reviews about these speakers so I expected either really poor quality speakers or really awesome speakers. My first impression of these speakers was that it was lacking some bass. But a sub could fix that problem. The mids and highs are very clear. Well I wasn't expecting too much, considering the price I paid. So all in all, they are excellent for its price. If you are an amateur or a beginning home studio recorder, get these speakers. They look really cool too.
