easy set up, impressive sound

(5 out of 5) by reading all night on Jan 24, 2006
This was my first AV receiver and I was intimidated at first by the huge tangle of wires leading from my speakers to this box, but the manual was clear, easy to follow, and I had everything hooked up and working in a couple hours. The speaker set up was easy to work through and manipulate, and the sound is very impressive. It also automatically determines what kind of sound is coming in (stereo, Dolby Digital, DTS, etc) and adjusts accordingly. The only quibble I have is my dog popped the circuit breaker in it once by standing in front of it and shaking vigorously. I guess he was a bit staticy. The received popped off and I had to unplug it for an hour to let it reset, which it did with no problems. Overall I'm very happy and would recommend it to anyone.

Awesome unit !! Great sound quality! Poor/no CS

(5 out of 5) by J. Rzeczycki on Mar 4, 2006 (East Tennessee)
I got this unit just a few days ago and I love it. I bought this to replace brand name pre-amp and amplifier separates, so I was wondering if this would compare to them in sound quality. It surely does compare to them.

I'm very impressed with this Onkyo unit. I had an Onkyo AM/FM tuner once which I liked, but this is my first Onkyo receiver.
The sound quality of this thing is super. The FM tuner in it isn't the best at pulling in stations but I have an older tuner I use for FM listening.

I use XM radio plugged into the tape output and it sounds very nice.

A DVD player into the digital coaxial output sounds very very nice.

I love being able to switch from tuner to CD or DVD, and adjust the volume with the remote.

Everything about it is very nice. It's very well built, user friendly, was packed very well, really nice remote control, and the instructions were easy to understand.

Though I love this unit and I have had no problems with it nor do I expect to, the toll free customer support is non existent. I called them many times and never got to talk to a rep, was always put on hold and at times for several minutes. I once left them a voicemail and asked them to return the call but they never did. I emailed them several times and never got a reply from those either. So, I don't know why theu even bother telling buyers about their toll free CS line.

But, the unit is real nice. I'm not sorry I bought it.

Best low cost amp around

(5 out of 5) by DSP on Aug 31, 2006 (Allen, TX United States)
I purchased this amp for my tv in the living room. I don't have surround sound in that room so I was looking for an amp that had very good stereo and the potential for surrond sound if I so desire in the futre. The amp is a good fit for that. The clarity of sound and ease of use are perfect for my wife and family to use. My media room also has an ONKYO amp but is a much higher powered system since that one is used for surround sound. All in all a the TX-SR303s is a great amp and the low price is the bonus.
