I did every bit of research I could. I have tried other detectors. This one seemed to do fine for detecting signals that were there. However, it seems that police are not broadcasting their presence every moment like they used to. This detector is not 'bad', but it is simply like every other detector these days in that it is better for detecting Wal-Marts than police.
I am frequently next to police who are not projecting any signal that this device can detect. I feel that IF the police happen to target someone else first, THEN I might be protected because this device will sense it, I will slow down, and they will get the other person first. But, if I was the main target, no radar detector would do any good against an instant-on detector. Sad, but it seems like the times have changed and so has police technology.
I drove from Maine to Georgia (12 states) with this device (taking it down in Va where it's illegal of course) and watched in my rear view as an unmarked cruiser entered the Highway behind the car behind me. We were the only 3 cars on a strait, sunny, stretch of highway and I had recently, accidentally, sped up to 90 and passed the car that was now behind me. I was a little suspicious of the new, 3rd, car and my detector went off after about a mile as soon as the cruiser targeted the car behind me. He could have, just as easily, nabbed me. What can a detector do against instant-on devices? It's ironic that I was only spared because I had just been speeding slightly faster than the car behind me - and not because of anything the detector did.

Just what I wanted it to be.
I drive a small, fast sports car and tend to have a heavy foot. This Belton V955 even alerts me to radar over hills and far enough away to take corrective action. Love it, love it, love it.
Good quality product for the money
I have used this product on a few road trips so far and it has saved my butt once so far.
To really see how well the product worked, my friend and I drove on a street that has a road sign that tells you your speed. It picked up the road sign from about 3-4 football fields away while heading towards the sign. After we passed it, it still picked it up for about half a football field. So I think that should be more than enough room to slow down.

works like a charm. saved me a couple times already. only issue is the winshield mounting hardware - doesn't stick well. good purchase/value.
saved me many times
I have owned this for over two months, and it has never failed to warn me that a cop is in the area. It provided plenty of warning to safely slow down. It will also make a couple of beeps at the volume that you set it, then will go to a quite tone. That is probably the best feature on the unit. The only downside is that if there are a lot of road work signs on the highway, you will get a fair amount of K band false alarms. Overall, you can't beat this for the money!
