Beltronics 955
Paid for itself the first day. Can almost see around corners and over hills.

Love to be able to outsmart the smokies!
I've given this a good 2 months before I wrote my review. I've read a lot of the false alert claims and other issues (the silver reflects? Really, is that a problem? tsk tsk). Thankfully, I am very pleased with the BEL Vector 955.
I drive 150 miles roundtrip every day to work. I leave it on autoscan in the city and the false alerts are X band. You can easily block out the X band to remove these false alerts.
When on the highway and in highway mode, which is always preferred for best performance, I rarely pick up a false signal. Mostly, it's an X band signal false alert. However, I do get laser false alerts as when you hit direct sunlight, this will produce laser alerts. I hit the mute button when I get these and it's really not a big problem. Besides, the only few times I've had a real laser alert, I saw the officers before hand and was able to slow before they "shot me". Laser alert in my mind, is probably useless.
Voice alert. I think it's mostly a good gimmick, especially if you rock out as the voice isn't very loud. Plus, the voice is 2 or 3 seconds after the detector goes off, and I ALWAYS look when I get the first warning anyway.
I am well please with the unit and will be buying another for my wife. It has already saved my bacon at least 4 or 5 times and with a minimum $150 ticket, it's paid for itself also.

Honest review of BEL Vector 955
I have used the BEL Vector 955 detector everyday now for 1 month. It has successfully detected active police radar well in advance from both front and behind my vehicle.
I found the detector to be extremely user friendly. It does pick up a good amount of false alerts, however; after you grow accustomed to the sound of the alert during a false alert compared to actual police radar you will be able to tell the difference.
The detector picks up police radar well in advance to give you plenty of time to SLOW down. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a very good police radar under $200. Are there better detectors out there???? Absolutely. However; do you really want to pay over $200 for a detector that may or may not work better than the BEL Vector 955?

Bel Vector 955 is Truly High Performance
BEL Vector 955 High Performance Radar Detector
Around town, X band detected for store automatic doors. But alarm can be quieted by optional settings. But on clear streets and highways this one picks up k,ka and laser from far away if you tap the brakes at the voice alert it is at around 10 seconds (I wouldn't doubt a mile) before you see the law enforcement. Rated 3rd in accuracy tests and next 2 are hundreds of dollars more. Definetly a great bang for the buck, highly recommended!

The Best "under $200" Radar Detector! ~ Beltronics V955
While I'll admit it's not a Valentine or Passport, at $155 (including shipping & handling) this Beltronics V955 is also less than 1/2 the price!
Paying a lawyer to fight a speeding ticket last time cost me $250+. Pleading guilty as charged on a typical speeding ticket (with a 3 "license points" penalty) in NC can boost insurance premiums 65% for 3 years! In addition, a North Carolina speeding ticket in excess of 15mph over the speed limit can result in license suspension. Saying "I was moving with the flow of traffic" doesn't seem to help earn a just a "warning". Side note: driving a bright red BMW convertible just screams "pick me...pick me" to police seeing a group of cars all moving along together. Therefore, $155 is "a real bargain" to help increase awareness of driving speed and improve safety on the roads.
I owned and used a similar Beltronics detector for 3 years and was not stopped even once for speeding during that time. My previous Beltronics detector (V940) did "get sick & died". However, I still liked it enough to replace it with another.
