Works great for Armalite AR-10!

(5 out of 5) by Ammon Manning on Apr 30, 2009 (Eagle, CO USA)
I searched for hours trying to find a good loader for the Armalite AR-10. (AR-15 rifle chambered in .308 Winchester / 7.62x51 NATO) Most of the 308 loaders do not work with the new 2nd Generation (Gen II) magazines because they no longer have a bump on the back that other loaders need to attach.

I read someone else had success with this loader so I gave it a try. It comes with two 10 round stripper clips and it works GREAT! I can load two 10 round stripper clips and fill a a 20 round magazine in less than a minute. No pinched fingers or bruised thumbs. I purchased 20 additional stripper clips so I can load them up before I go out to the range.

Also, the bottom of the plunger is designed to unload the magazine too by pushing out each round. This too saves the fingers.

Useful, handy, thrifty tool.

The NCstar 308 size magazine loader is an extremely handy tool for people who tend to shoot in bulk quantities. Used in conjunctition with commonly available 308 stripper clips, one can store his ammunition on clips, in 30 cal ammo cans, and have it ready to use at the range.

Some will like it because it doesn't fatigue the thumb from pushing fresh cartridges into a magazine. Others will like it because it is another "gadget" for the range bag. Some prefer to purchase and use several magazines at a shooting session (and then clean several magazines after a shooting session). Myself, I like it because now I only have to clean one magazine after practice at the range, AND I can make the most of the range time I have for practice because I don't have to slow down to manually load magazines.

In operation one slides the box end of the device over the magazine, with the embossed arrow pointing towards the "bullet" end of the magazine. One removes the plunger device from the box. (Note the plunger device has a handy magnet installed which readily removes spent clips after loading.) Drop a loaded clip of 10 cartridges into the device from the top, and reinsert the plunger in the cast-in plunger guide. Press down, and the cartridges are deftly removed from the clip and inserted into the magazine in one stroke. Upon removing the plunger the empty clip is removed by the magnet on the handle.

Insert a second loaded clip, and repeat. In all, the process is lightning quick. Due to the boxed in design, no cartridges can jump the clip.

'Course as with anything, the downside to this device is that one has to load up the clips with ammunition before leaving to the range. Unlike the M16 clips, the common 308 clips do not have the same holding power, and oft times one will drop a cartridge from the bottom end of the clip upon removal from the ammo can. In terms of a system, this propensity of the clip to drop a round is a definite detraction. But I gave the device five stars because it works great and as intended.

Get some! You'll be glad you did.

Works well with not just the indicated rifle magazines but also the DPMS LR-308 magazines.
