WOW! Gorgeous Silky sound
These replaces my 6 month old Bose 301s which replaces a pair of 5 year old Bose 201s, I am extremely happy to have taken the chance and bought this speakers base on other customers review on their website. I have thru the span of 20 yrs or so accumulated to 450+ cds in my collections. With the Bose 301s, the sound seems colored, unnaturally enhanced. With these speakers the music sounds wider, deeper, involving or shall I say REAL and Balanced. The music is presented as close as the artist I guess would have intended it to be. The build is solid, the Dark cherry color is amazingly nice very pleasant and classy to the eye. The price is a steal, I have listen to other speakers that doesn't even come close to the sound these VR3's produce, and they're at least twice or even three times more expensive. I have only written three reviews over maybe perhaps close to over a 80-100's purchases I have done thru Amazon. And these speakers are just too good not to spread the news around. So far after close to 50 hours of listening to music, the sounds seems to get better and better, Crisp and Clear. If your planning to upgrade or replace your sound system give these speakers an auditioned or like me, just make the leap of faith and buy it. I promised you, In the sub $[...] speakers category nothing comes close to the value, build, aesthetic and above all, sound that this speakers produce. Oh, by the way, even without a separate subwoofer, these VR3s has tremendous bass from the incorporated woofer in the speaker. I hope this helps. Happy listening to music.
Very good for the price
I've had these speakers for about a year now. I personally like the mid and low range they have but the highs n are not as crispt as I would like it to be. They look great though. I had to purchase a sub to make the real low notes rumble through. I paid about half of their retail price and I'm very happy about that. Therefore I would recommend these VR3 for anyone that can still find a set.
at $1200, it is best bang for the buck; at $600, it is a steal!
I used to think average headphones can beat most loudspeakers, well, until I've got the Boston Acoustics VR3. Now, only my $100 Shure earphone is clearer (but bass is not as good), and the VR3 has beaten all my other headphones (including a really good neo magnet monitor headphone).
The VR3 is exceptionally clear from top to bottom. I actually changed it to 3-way active crossover tri-amp configuration, which removes the harsh distortions introduced by passive crossovers. Before the modification, the VR3 already shows its amazing talent. After the modification, it is a knockout!
With the VR3, I am now rediscovering that my "bad" CDs are actually pretty good - I was fooled by poor speakers and headphones for so long - and VR3 is a true revelation.

Amazing Speakers
I purchased these speakers over 6 months ago and can't believe how great they made my old sony reciever sound. Superb low end response and crystal clear highs. I recently purchased a Denon 3808Ci and to my amazement, these speakers sound twice as good as before. I am completely happy with my purchase and recommend these to anyone interesed in buying a new set without breaking the bank.
