Move on to your next choice
I will start with the bad things about this player because that is probably why you are reading this review. I must agree with the other reviewer in that these players do not last long. Mine lasted about two weeks before the laser stopped detecting the discs. My player is used about 3-4 hours each work day, but I've had other player last for years under the same conditions. The batteries are very difficult to remove because they are housed in the disc tray. When the compartment door is opened, there is very little room to work your fingers under the batteries to remove them because the door gets in the way. Also, the DC adapter receptor does not fit any of the standard adapters, even those with multiple plug offerings. I also do not like buttons for volume control because too much force can cause the disc to slip; I prefer a knob control. There were a few things I liked: the display is on the front so that it can be viewed as it rests on a shelf; play resumes where the disc was stopped without having to keep in on `pause'. However, the battery life was nowhere near the advertised life and there was no line out plug. The cons far outweigh the pros with this unit.

Appearances aren't deceiving
This player is 20-30 bucks cheaper than the previous generation Sony CD Walkman (D-E350) with identical features. It looks it.
The previous player was manufactured in Japan; this one is made in China. Only a hair smaller and lighter than the earlier player, this one lacks the upward-facing, finger-friendly chrome buttons. They're plastic and all but inaccessible and invisible on the player's lower, inward-slanting surface. The read-out window on the previous model was not only larger and marked more clearly but was readable from top-side; the only way to read the window on the current model is to hold the player close to your face and at eye level or higher (I'd planned to use the player in the bathroom. Not a good idea unless your toilet tank is at least 6').
As for the advertised "reduced" price, don't buy it: it's being advertised for the same price and postage-free on the Sony site.
Notwithstanding all of the reservations expressed above, I was prepared to allow this mass-produced piece of plastic to impress me with pure performance. Three CD's and three "no disc" readings. It goes back to Amazon. Good thing it's light.

What is all the fuss about??
I almost didn't purchase this CD player because of all the bad reviews it had been getting, but I decided to go for it! I am glad I did, I am very happy with this Sony Walkman! I use it for walking, listening to meditating CDs, audio books, everything and have not had one single problem with it. I am so glad I did not let the few negative reviews sway my decision! As mentioned in another review, I love that if you have to stop playing whatever your listening to it will pick up on the same track when you press play again, it also fits in my back pocket so I can walk around the house listening to anything while doing chores, the earpieces fit well, there is absolutley nothing wrong with this walkman! Those of you who seemed to have this walkman break in 2-3 weeks must not take care of your things. I love it, the price was great, so don't let the negative reviews stop you on this purchase!

Rip-off.
I've only had this CD player for about two months, and today it just randomly died. I was very gentle with it, too. I would recommend this as a temporary CD player only, because of it's cheap price. Overall, it is a poorly designed player.
Pros:
-Pretty color
-Cheap price.
Cons:
-Sometimes it would skip when I was walking (Don't even THINK about running with the thing.)
-HORRIBLE battery life. I've spent more on batteries than I have on the player itself.
-The design is not ergonomic at all. The button layout is awful.
-It's NOISY. And I don't mean the music; you can tell if it's playing or not because you can actually hear the disk turning, and all the little mechanical operations that are going on inside this peice of junk.
-The lid (or whatever it's called) does not seem to fit properly and it lets crud into the CD Player. I have a disk that got torn up INSIDE the player, all because of dirt that got in.
-It doesn't work for very long. At all.
-If you jostle it, sometimes it turns off, and sometimes it stars playing the CD from the very beginning.

serious drop in quality
I have always been a fan of Sony because they make quality products that are "user-friendly". That is why I was in a state of complete shock that this little blue cd walkman is made by Sony, because it is on the other end of the spectrum compared to what they usually manufacture.
First the bad...the control buttons (sound, changing tracks, pause, etc) are tiny and nearly impossible to read. I found myself having to hold the cd player up to my face to find the right button, and I do not have any vision problems. The little lcd screen is hard to read as well. Next, the sound quality is poor and has a cheap "watered down" feel to it. Then there are the stock headphones that the product comes with. These are cheap and don't fit well.
I bought a yellow "psyc" sony walkman a couple years ago, and that one is 3 times the product that this one is. The sound is near-perfect and the buttons are easy to see and use. The headphones fit well and the whole package has lasted with no issues at all.
I wouldn't write sony off simply b/c of this product, but I would definitely do some research prior to purchasing a walkman from them.
