Back luck twice

(2 out of 5) by Barb R. on Aug 6, 2008 (Northfield, IL)
I purchased this item and within 6 weeks and without a lot of use, the CD player quit. First the sound went in and out and then the no disc sign appeared. I sent it back to try again. It had shipped from Dependable Resource and they were FANTASTIC! I just received my second one and the cd player refused to play on the VERY FIRST CD. Again the no disc sign. So it is going back again and this time I am asking for a refund. But what a pain! The size was great for my kitchen and the sound just fine. But I purchased the item to be able to play CD's in my kitchen. Obviously, that I cannot do. Buy at your own risk.

Great Player

(5 out of 5) by Student on Mar 4, 2008
Purchased this Sony portable CD/Tape player and Radio as a gift. The recipient loves it, and he is not tech savvy. He's used the tape player, CD player, and even managed to program the digital radio stations. He has also received positive comments from other people who've enjoyed it. All in all, it's been a big hit.

Nice radio, cd, and cassette player/recorder

(5 out of 5) by Bruce T. Dunlap on Feb 17, 2008
I bought the Sony cfd-e100 as a Christmas present for my wife. She loves it. It has a nice, clean appearance and fits into a relatively small space. The sound quality is decent although the mega-bass feature does nothing as far as I can tell. It is easy to program the channels on the radio. The remote control is also easy to use. The one drawback of this radio is that the display is LCD (liquid crystal display) and not LED. Therefore you cannot see the channels at night.
The radio was shipped promptly.

Nifty little machine

(5 out of 5) by Lifelong Star Trek fan on Aug 9, 2007 (Washington, DC United States)
I have not tried to record an audio cassette yet but it is nice to have a machine with that capacity especially in a single deck design. The other components -- radio and cassette and CD playback -- work fine. This is a cleverly designed and attractive machine and I am very satisfied with it.

Gets the job done

(4 out of 5) by Arlan Purdy on Dec 17, 2007 (United States)
The unit was a little bigger than I envisioned, but only because my imagination is not very accurate. It can't be too much smaller and accomodate the width of a CD and some speakers.

I think the design is clever, considered, and admirable. Even when the handle is lowered it does not interfere with the tape deck, for example.

There's nothing to complain about in this unit, given its size and price, but it doesn't quite thrill you, either. I'd have gladly traded the remote for an aux jack that would let me pipe my MP3 player.

But I needed tape and CD, portable, at a decent price, and that's what you get here.
