Sony radio/CD player/cassette tape player

(5 out of 5) by Eleanor Wilson on Dec 4, 2007 (Hendersonville, NC USA)
This item was purchased for use in my husband's workshop where he often has difficulty picking up favorite radio stations. He is delighted with the product and finds that all three modes--radio, CD, and tape--work great and keep him a happy woodworker.

Beats the competition

(5 out of 5) by A.S.I on Sep 9, 2007 (Maryland, USA & Lagos, Nigeria)
For the price, I think it's an incredible bargain. It looks really cute, it's modern and not over the top. It's also compact and the cd sound quality is quite good. The radio is digital i.e doesn't use a dial so that is pretty cool as well. It comes with a remote but I haven't used it and it also has a cassette deck player which I have not used either. I primarily use it at work to listen to the radio or cd's and it fits nicely on my desk without taking up a lot of space and I have received lots of comments on how nice-looking it is.

Most other boomboxes in the same price range can't rival this in terms of features, quality, looks or any other category. Recommended.

Poor Quality : "no disc" Error after 14 months

(1 out of 5) by Mick on Sep 11, 2008 (Gulf South USA)
We purchased a Sony CFD-E100 Portable CD Radio Cassette Recorder directly from the Sony Style outlet store. It worked great for 14 months. Now it will not play CDs saying "no disc" error. I contacted Sony technical support. They were apologetic and polite, however, would only offer flat rate repair or exchange for a refurbished unit per their website. This will end up costing as much as a new one! I tried different discs and cleaning as others have suggested but nothing helped. We are VERY disappointed in Sony quality and product support...

Sony CFD-E100 fails after short life

(1 out of 5) by E. Browning on Jul 16, 2008 (United States)
My husband and I liked this fairly well, although it's a nuisance that the handle blocks the cassette door when the handle's down. After a few months, we began having trouble with cassettes (audio books) playing; the tape would continue to turn, but the we could barely hear the sound. We thought it was a problem with the volume, but it turned out to be the player; we had to wedge a piece of folded paper behind the Play button to make the sound work.

Last week, I moved it from one place to another, and the power wouldn't come back on. It hadn't been dropped or damaged or even used very much (only my husband and I use it, no kids, and we don't listen to books on cassettes very often). I checked the outlet, checked that the cord was secure in the player, checked the breaker, then checked the cord itself with a meter. Everything was working except the player. I "fiddled" with it, turning on first the CD then the tape instead of the using the power button, and it started working again. It worked for about 3 more days, then stopped completely. I put batteries in it, but it didn't work with them either, so the problem is definitely internal. When I did an online help search, I learned that this has happened to a lot of buyers: http://www.fixya.com/support/t123376-player_turn_period.

Can't recommend this product at all, unless you only want it for a few months.

Sweet

(5 out of 5) by Karen G. Pelzer on Oct 20, 2007 (Mattoon, Illinois)
I bought this Sony product and it is wonderful! The tone is great and I like it to because of its unique shape. If you want a very, very good product this is it. And even though it is a portable there is nothing light about the sound it produces. It is heavy enough to have great sound.
