A standard SATA disk will format as a dynamic volume under windows 2000 pro, and the device is easy to install and use. It's much more sturdy than the Genica Hot Swap devices, and just as easy to use with it's swing-up dust shield that pops up when you remove the drive. The carrier is virtually all metal and very well made, and the fixed part has an activity LED and a fan, as well as a lock switch.

Great Swapable SATA Drive Kit !!!!

As long as you use it gently when inserting or removing drives, this kit will work and last a long time. Have many of these and none have failed me. This model does not have a plug for the Hard Drive LED Light because it's built in. When your hard drive is in use, the LED Light (Red LED) lights up without having to connect the LED Plug like the older models. Also has a GREEN LED to show that the Drive Does Have Power to it. Very Easy to Install!!!

There's a faintly detectable fan noise, but other than that you don't know it's even running. Both the drive bay insert and the HDD caddy seem very solid and well-built.
Because it's hot swappable, I find using this easier than the external backup hard drive that it replaced. You don't have to worry about another power cord, wall socket and USB port, and it powers down when your machine does.
Note that the product description above is incorrect. This model is for SATA not IDE drives, and only includes a single (but still adequate) fan at the back.
