Bad instructions - Installed, doesn't work

The instructions were so bad I went to the net, expecting something better. Nope same stuff. There is a white plastic part that covers the screws for the battery. Not shown in the instructions. Once I got it together and istalled - doesn't work. The night light is super, fan doesn't work.
