iRiver... Surprises always!

(4 out of 5) by MC J on Jul 8, 2005 (California)
iRiver has done it again! The new iFP-990 is truly inspiring! It has an awe-inspring 36mW of sound! (18mW on each side, left&right)
Other than the fact that the memory is small, this mp3 player is better than iPods. It has a high quality voice recorder, FM radio, and color display. The color display is awesome. It has 260,000 colors, while iPod only has 65,000.
If you aren't looking for big memory to store all your songs, this is the player for you! The battery lasts 40 hours, and is rechargeable.
This player can also store and view pictures, although only in bmp. format. It can also be used as a handy USB memory key.
I bought mine from Korea when it first came out 2 years ago, and I'm still using it well, without and major defects. The only problem is the worry of the jog button breaking. Other than that, it is an awe-inspiring machine!

World's most amazing mp3 recorder/player

(5 out of 5) by Andy L on May 11, 2007 (Salt Lake City, UT)
I am a member of a world-class chamber choir, and after significant research on recording devices, I purchased this device to record our practices for my personal study in practicing. The features it has is way out of it's class and price range. It rivals high-end digital recording devices, and can be used with very little effort. It has the ability to record in stunning 44.1 kHz 320kbps stereo as it directly encodes to MP3.

The screen is a full color gem that features a nice GUI, allowing you to navigate the many features with ease. I like the Li-ion battery which gives about 40 hours of playback/recording time between charges. Charges only take abt 3 hours or so with either the USB cable or the included AC adapter.

You can record radio, line in, microphone (stereo or mono) or voice with great ease, and you can easily change the recording quality of each of these inputs.

It is too bad that iriver stopped putting all these features in their current player lineups, such as the T10 and T30. This little mp3 player/recorder is the best device that I have ever tested or used.

Awesome voice recorder.

(5 out of 5) by Jon Almada on May 6, 2007 (Shingle Springs, CA USA)
I bought the Iriver 990 as a voice recorder to record my voice while I shoot outdoor videos after which I match the voice recording to the video. I just received the unit, plugged it in and charged it and tested the recorder. Awesome audio recorder with full, deep voice recording quality.

While the rest of the functions are nice and something I will indeed use, I'm just pleased beyond words at the quality of the built-in microphone. For my work outdoors, this is the perfect device for voice track recording and beats out other voice recorders I own by a country mile. Too bad it is no longer manufactured. I'm feeling lucky to have found this little gem.
