Simply Wonderful

(5 out of 5) by Mike on Nov 27, 2004 (Chicago)
This product is perfect for someone entering the XM Satellite Radio revolution! At first, the price is a little daunting, but then you have to look at everything you get.

First, it is another plug & play receiver that you can swap between your car and home, just like the Roady and SkyFi receivers. Plus, it includes both kits for the home and the car. I honestly believe that this product is a great value for that alone, since this is one of the most advanced receivers in the market.

But, the MyFi also allows you to listen to XM on the go, which is the first of its kind. Like others have said in their reviews, this feature works best for larger cities where there is a nice repeater network in place. Plus, for those times you are in the subway or gym, you can use the XM2GO feature which works just like a Tivo. You can schedule a recording session, or as I like to do, record songs whenever I feel like it! If I am listening and hear good songs, I just hit the "XM2GO" button and the MyFi records the songs. Then, when I want to listen to these songs, I can scroll through all of the songs available and choose which one I feel like listening to. I love how the MyFi retains the artist info as it records.

Again, this may look a little pricey, but I honestly believe that this is the best money I could spend because I can already see how often I am going to use this. On a side note, I think that the XM service is incredible. I have tried Sirius, but didn't really like their programming. My favorite channel is XM200 which plays live concerts all day. Plus, XM is $3 cheaper a month which is always good in my book!

Love It!

(5 out of 5) by philo on Apr 7, 2005 (N.Cal)
Just purchased the MyFi from Amazon for $250 with their $50 off deal. I`ll skip all the details and just give my opinion of it`s performance compared with other`s opinions. I have the original Delphi SkyFi and wanted the Myfi only for the walkman like properties and so far it has lived up to my expectations. I`m sure it will get better but I give it 5 stars based on what else it out there (which for satellite radio is nothing).

I use it running, biking, skiing etc. where I want my hands free so the MyFi goes in a pocket or pack and I use the external antenna. I attached the antenna to my favorite ball cap and left it on there so it`s always ready to go. It isn`t heavy or very noticeable or hard to attach. It`s just another wire, right next to the headphone wire, coming from my head. I didn`t find it to be much of a problem as others did.

With the external antenna the reception while doing activities was flawless in open areas but was lost in thick trees. This was acceptable to me as I`m in bad reception areas only for short periods of time.I tried it without the external antenna and noticed it doesn`t like movement much but works fine in open areas in an upright static position (sitting on the beach for example).

The battery life was 6 hours on the first full discharge. The recording feature is easy to do and is just like listening to live XM. You can only program two separate recording sessions for up to five hours. Having the capability of more recording sessions would be nice (say five separate one hour sessions). And being able to download directly to a computer would be a bonus. But for now it`s the best thing going.

In addition, I use it in my second vehicle (I kept the SkyFi for my other vehicle) and it works great with the included magnetic antenna. No reception problems except in extreme canyons or very thick trees. I live in the country and don`t have any experience with it in cities. The cassette adapter sounds much better than the FM modulator. At my house, in a very thick forest, the home antenna gets three bars of reception.

In conclusion, I love it. I did not find the problems with it other people did. Buy it from Amazon and save 50 bucks thru May 1. Their customer service is great too - two days after I ordered the MSRP was lowered $50 to $299. With one e-mail request they refunded $50 with no problems. With free shipping and no sales tax they are the best deal going. And no, I don`t work for them!

Not Truly "Mobile" just yet.

(2 out of 5) by K. Schneider on Nov 15, 2005 (Casper, Wyoming United States)
I thought this would be the ultimate Radio finally they have a portable version. I thought wrong, sure its portable it will go from the car into the house using the home dock and Antenna (if placed in a window) it works just fine. If you where planning to purchase this item to listen to at the gym or on a walk "outside" even the mobile antenna (included) and not internal as it should be will fade in and out. Sometimes if you are standing in place pointing the antenna at the sun while hold your leg just right you may get a good signal for as long as you can hold that position. Don't believe the hype the MyFi is still not truly mobile yet.

"Portability" is a real drawback for "2GO"

(1 out of 5) by Patrick K. Ryan on May 30, 2005 (Michigan)
As a unit for the car or in the home, the XM2GO is great. I purchased mine for running(2GO) and for the car as an afterthought. It works great in the car. The sound and reception are great. The price for subscription is good. The attachments for the car are substandard, but not severely so.

However, the unit is awful if you live in an area with trees or buildings. It has the dumbest antenna that you clip on to boost the signal. It does not work and a run with this thing is maddening.

It has the capacity store programing. But, the carrying case is so poorly designed that it shuts off the unit when you put it in the carrier. The carrier itself attaches very poorly and mine fell off while running.

If these folks had any conscience they would retro-fit these units once they work out the antenna problem. They should also provide a decent carrier.

The unit itself is quite acceptable. The attachments are so poorly thought out that I will be very cautious about purchasing anything made by them.

Love it!

(4 out of 5) by S. Leigh Whitaker on Oct 16, 2005 (Ohio)
I was already a fan of XM radio and had the Roady for my car. I had been wanting to get the MyFi ever since they came out. I finally did it and I'm so glad!

The MyFi is very portable: goes from car to work very easily. It's a big improvement over the Roady in that you don't have a lot of cables to unplug or replug since there is a docking station. At work I can't get reception in one very interior room (can't even get FM reception in this room) so I was thrilled with the record feature. I can set it up to record at least 5 hours of content and I am pretty much set for the work day. The down sides of the record feature have been mentioned in other reviews, but they include not being able to decide which stuff gets deleted, you can't protect a particular song or delete particular songs. It would also be nice to be able to transfer recorded content to a cd or to my computer, which is not possible with this unit (although recording to a tape through the stero would be possible I guess).

Interestingly the MyFi gets very good signal in the exterior rooms where I work, even without the added antenna. I have never had any problems with reception in my car with either of my XM radios (Roady or MyFi) and I commute from a more rural area to a fairly large city. On a recent 8 hr road trip I never lost signal once the whole time. Granted, I do use the magnetic antenna on top of my car. It wasn't that big of a deal to thread it through the back up to the front, and if the cord ever gets damaged I'll just buy a replacement. The only place I routinly lose signal is in the parking garage. No biggie.

The MyFi has a great look and feel. It's very comfortable in the hand and it's so shiny and pretty. A big improvement over the Roady. The display is very nice, big, and easy to see. I find the controls pretty intuiative.

In all I am very impressed and thrilled. If the record features were just a little more advanced I'd give this 5 stars. I'd give it 4.9 stars if Amazon would let me.
