Old school large towers
I had read lots of reviews on these speakers and can say that those reviews were very accurate. I currently have the Betas bi-amped to an Onkyo 7.1 ch receiver and the sound is breathtaking. At full blast on movies such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Master & Commander, the speakers tackle and weave together everything from soundtrack to dialog to explosive effects masterfully. They did take a little breaking in to get over some initial tinny sound at higher volumes. I've had these speakers now for almost a year and they show no signs of straining.
Listening to music, especially acoustic tracks is a joy. I often turn off my subwoofer and let the Betas handle the tracks by themselves. They reproduce the sound with excellent clarity and create a nice, full sound stage.
I will warn that these are powerful speakers and can get boomy if you don't match them right. My previous receiver was an old Sony that could not compensate well, and would let the mains overpower my other speakers (which are not Infinitys). My current unit has ironed out all the kinks.
At this point, the Betas have gotten a little old, but at $250/speaker they are an absolute bargain and can still compete with speakers twice that price. If you find them and are looking for big and powerful, go for it!

A super deal if you can still find them!!!
I got two of these babies in Cherrywood finish on a closeout special. They are replacing my old Infinity Studio Monitors 150's so I was somewhat worried about loss of bass response. (The 150's have 15" woofers) I needn't have worried as these speakers have a nice tight low range and are very well balanced through the whole spectrum. They are truly a best buy for the price. Pick a pair of these up if you can still find them...you will not be disappointed.

Audiable pleasure to the ears
After looking at top of the line stores I was completely frustrated with their line of speakers. I use a specialty shop in Arizona for all of my other needs. Carver pre amp and amplifier. Carver 2500 watt cube subwoofers. I took a gamble and bought the Infinity center channel speaker and matched this up with my ancient Akai tower speakers. I was blown away by the clarity of the speaker. I invested my money into the Infinity Beta 50 3 way speakers to match my satellite speakers which are infinity speakers. You feel as though you are in a Movie theater with this combination of Infinity products. I highly recommend the entire line of infinity products. With age they will only become better.

Big Bang For your Buck
I have these bi-amped, 2x120 watt channels to each one. The sound is great. The highs are high and the lows...low. These speakers are LOUD. Movies are great but music is better. Get the center channel Beta too. I did. It makes the dialogue in movies much more clear. I agree that you don't need a sub but eventually I am going to get one. The construction is solid and they are heavy. I think that is a good thing. The price is even better. I suggest you keep the metal grills on. You don't want little nasty fingers touching them! My precious!

Great speakers, amazing value
I've owned a pair of these for almost a year now and they are fantastic. I spent a lot of time listening to a lot of speakers and the beta 50s were right up there with speakers costing almost twice as much. These are a great value, and I couldn't be happier with my decision.
