Best 200 dollars I ever spent.

(4 out of 5) by N. Norman on Jul 9, 2005 (Fuquay-Varina, NC USA)
I bought this unit at Sam's club and did not have high expectations after reading all the reviews for the ones costing 3 times as much, but I was taking a cross country trip and wanted to have it to while the time away. It was great! I'll be honest, it is hard to hear some dialoque on airplanes, but I think better headphones would help. I decided to play foreign films so I could read along with the subtitles and that solved that problem. I watched one and a half movies on a trip from Raliegh to LA and it was the nicest time on a plane I have ever had. The pictures is amazing, and if you aren't on a plane the sound is great. When the battery dies (after about 3 hours), it makes a horrible sound, and the games included are loud and archaic, but I didn't buy it for games, so I don't mind. I really like this system and it was a great price. I bought a year long extended warranty just in case after reading the reviews. I've had it a month and have seen about 8 discs on it. I love it. I figure if it lasts 2 years, I have more than gotten my money's worth.

Great picture

I very carefully looked for a product with a minimum 8-inch screen. The price on this was great, and the screen is awesome! DVD's on this look better than on my television. I have had no problems yet, but bought the warranty just in case. The speaker quality sucks, but I kind of expected that for the price. It sounds fine with the included headphones. And being able to buy EVERYTHING you need in one fell swoop is so convenient.

Wonderful Product

(5 out of 5) by Deborah A. Wagner on Nov 2, 2006 (Jersey Shore, NJ)
We bought this portable DVD player for a road trip with our two sons ages 11 and 9. While we don't generally encourage watching a lot of movies, this was the best purchase we had made in a long time. It was a long trip, with many traffic and weather delays, so this product certainly helped keep our boys busy. It has two headphones so noone was complaining that they couldn't hear. It kept it's charge the entire trip-over eight hours- and comes with an easy adapter for recharging in the car or in a hotel. My husband and I also used it when the boys were asleep. The headphones let us watch without disturbing their sleep. I would certainly recommend this to anyone.

excellent choice

(5 out of 5) by Mommy on Sep 1, 2005 (Bellmore, NY)
We purchased this portable DVD player for a trip which included a connecting flight and a five hour drive with our two year old son. The car seat hook-up was pretty simple, the quality of the picture was great. My son did not want to wear the earphones and the sound was heard perfectly well with all the road noise. We even used it on the plane trip and had to lower the volume quite a bit so as not to disturb others. Did I mention how great having a remote for it was. It played through an entire movie and we had no problems with the battery. And guess what? It comes in it's own carrying case which fits all the straps, battery and attachments. It was perfect and absolutely well worth the money. We've used it on about 10 occassions already and no problems.

Waste of money!

(1 out of 5) by D. Gordon on Jul 4, 2006
I spent $400 16 months ago on two very similar portable Audiovox DVD players for my kids, for long roadtrips. They were handled with care, never abused or exposed to severe temperatures. I think we got about 6 trips out of them, then the screens went blank while in use and both units died within 24 hours of each other. Circuit City informed me the product is no longer on their shelves and referred me to Audiovox, who will do nothing since the product is now out of warranty. Extended warranties are useless on this kind of product -- who can wait 6-8 weeks for repairs? Parents, find another brand!
