Deep bass

(4 out of 5) by Peter on Dec 3, 2008 (Madison, WI United States)
I've seen some reviewers question the adequacy of the Monitor 70's bass response. I have these speakers hooked up to a modestly powered Onkyo receiver, and I find the bass more than adequate for all types of music. I like a deep, rich bass in my tunes, and I have felt no need to attach a subwoofer to my system. In fact, I've turned the bass down a bit on my receiver to allow the midrange to shine through. As others have noted, the midrange and highs are crisp. Be aware the speaker is almost 16" deep, so it tends to stick out from the wall.

I was one of those folks with bose speakers as my front speakers. I am not going to bash Bose, however I now hear instruments that I did not even know were there!! These are very well constructed speakers. I give these 5 stars and you will be happy with them. Well done Polk Audio!! Now after almost a year I completed my system with 4 FXI 3,s for surround and rear surround, Along with a CSA4 Center and polk ps 10 sub The thing that strikes me about polk products besides and more than great sound, is the impressive build quality. Polk speakers like power I am running all this with a Sony E.S 5300 with plenty of power.

OUTSTANDING!!!

(5 out of 5) by Vance H. Fujino on Jun 5, 2008 (Aiea, HI)
After listening to all what Polk has to offer - from the M20 through M70 - you can't beat the M70. It offers all a little of bass, treble and the highs! I started with the M50 with CS1 and the PSW10. Not bad but not enough treble and steady bass. The M70 is an outstanding speaker for the money - inexpensive with an tremendous sound. My set-up M70 / CS2 / PSW10 / with an ONKYO HTR-500. You will be surprise what a 50watt PSW10 puts out. Perfect for all movies and music dvds. And you can't beat FREE 2-day to HAWAII! Thank you!

Excellent speakers

(5 out of 5) by 32 coupe on Oct 13, 2009 (Galt, Ca)
I purchased these speakers based soley on Amazon and other reviews. I never listened to them in a store. The reviews were right on the money. These speakers sound great, much better with a sub-woofer, although alone they don't sound bad either. I would highly recommend these speakers great value as well as aesthetically pleasing.

Excellent Speakers - very very happy.

(5 out of 5) by R. Estridge on Jun 20, 2009 (British Virgin Islands)
Let me come right out and say these speakers are an excellent buy. Before I bought these speakers I really did my research, on many websites like CNet, Crutchfield and many others. I spent many hours understanding speaker technology, like speaker response, bi-wiring, etc. i considered many brands like Kilpsch, Aperion, etc. and in the end, I decided on the Polk Monitor 70s.

These speakers really sound great and I love watching Blu-ray movies and playing video games just so that I can enjoy the sound that comes out of these speakers. They sound great no matter what form of media I've used them for. I must say however, that these speakers must be set as 'large' when setting up with your receiver. I made the mistake of first setting them as small, cause that's what I read somewhere was the best, and I was disappointed with the sound, and did think that the speakers weren't that good. But one day when I just decided to mess around with the receiver and set them as large, wow!, it was like they woke up, came alive - I was shocked at the difference just that little setting made. So please set them up as large.

One other thing to note is that they sound really good without a separate subwoofer. If you haven't heard a surround sound set up with a good sub included, then you wouldn't be missing anything. But if you're a bass buff and love loud bass then get a good sub. I say a good sub because if you get a $200 sub, for example, then the bass from the Monitor 70s sound just as good, and you will hear very little difference between the Monitor 70s and the sub. So if you're gonna get a sub, get one that's $400 (retail price) at least.

So in the end, I would easily recommend getting the Monitor 70s. Cause really if you don't, I'm thinking about getting a second pair to use a rears.
