Excellent 5.1 Speaker Set for Typical Family Rooms
I have an older Sony Audio-Visual Receiver (STR-DE595) that supports 5.1 surround sound. The AVR had been sitting in a box since my stepson moved out and took his speakers with him. After watching a movie at a friend's house with Bose surround sound, I noted that the sound was far better than what I had remembered from the speakers my stepson has. But doing some research I found these speakers were touted as having better midrange than the Bose and were at a much more affordable price point.
I spent about $30 in speaker wire (18g to front and center speakers, 16g to surround speakers, special Y-RCA cable to the subwoofer). The first show I watched was ER. The hospital loudspeaker in the background came from behind me and the dialog from in front. I felt like I was in the hospital with them.
When I listened to the classical music station it sounded like someone had moved their piano into our TV room. Finally, I watched a DVD and could follow the sound of a moving train as it receded behind me. I'm no audiophile, but I think these speakers outshine the Bose Acoustimass 10 at a fraction of the price. Next on my list will be an Onkyo THX certified receiver.
I've only had them for a few days, but so far I would have to say that it would be very hard to get better speakers for the money.

Polk Audio RM6750 Speakers - a best buy!
I purchased these speakers to support surround sound in a new movie theater in our basement - the room is approximately 15 x 15. I'm using these in combination with a Pioneer receiver/amp.
The sound quality of these speakers is completely amazing and I would recommend these to anyone. They can easily handle a much larger room without any difficulty and the range of these speakers is magnificent.
These are a must buy for anyone who is looking to put together a home theater with surround sound - there is no better product for the price on the market.

Great entry level home theater sound.
After waiting a couple of months for an Onkyo 7.1 system to be in stock, I decided to go with the RM 6750 5.1 system when the price dropped on Amazon. It is connected to an Onkyo 606 receiver that is the hub for our Sharp Aquos HDTV and Memorex DVD upgrading player. The speakers sound great at 30% volume when watching TV or DVDs. I do not like to crank up the volume and these are plenty loud enough for us at 30%. Haven't tried them yet with music; but I am not expecting to be disappointed. I recommend these speakers to anyone wanting a good entry level sound. I stayed away from Home Theater in a box systems because of their limitations.
The center channel is clear and dialogue is great. The base rumbles just enough for our taste; but turned up higher will shake the room. The fronts and surrounds provide a good 'in theater' feel. It would be great to add a couple of Polk towers to bring the set up to 7.1 even though we like it as is.

Great product for the price
Even after reading the product info on these speakers, when I took them out of the box I was surprised at the size and weight of the center and surround speakers... none of those little 3" by 3" lightweight surround speakers like you see a lot of places. I have these hooked up to a Yamaha AV receiver and they sound great! The subwoofer adds a smooth bass sound that fills the room without being overpowering. I highly recommend this speaker set to anyone that wants a reasonably priced product that sounds great!

Excellent sound for a great price
I went to a few of the local "big name" stores to evaluate speakers and came away pretty impressed with the sound quality of this group. I was hoping to find a good quality system at a good price, so having found the system, I got the good price through Amazon. I set everything up and tested it out. I was definitely impressed and happy that I chose the Polk speakers. Music was rich and vibrant; television and DVD sound was crisp and free of any interference or background noise. To provide a frame of reference, our system is comprised of an Onkyo TX-SR605, an OPPO DVD (981HD), a Toshiba 46LX177, and an APC H10 power filter/voltage regulator. The Polk powered subwoofer is plugged into a Monster subwoofer power filter. Speaker setup was easy using Onkyo's Audyssey feature. By the way, all the speakers and the sub were shipped in one box, which was well-secured and arrived safely.
