Batteries in Description

Newer version is much,much better

The first is what most people are reviewing.
It is distinguished by a red LED CD display.
This version was subpar and sold up until the end of 2006.
In 2007 the second version is distinguished by an LCD CD display.
The build quality is much better as well as the sound.
Apparently Emerson switched manufacturers as both unit s have different OEM
codes on the ID plates.
I have both versions and this is how I know this.
The first one I purchased at Walmart in December 2006 and it stopped reading cd's.
I returned it about a month later and received the second version.
The store had to have received new shipments and even the box looked different.
What a difference!
Much much better. And a bargain for $20 too!
Is it a high end model? heck no! but for the price it's good.

Not top of the line, but works for what I need it for.

There are not many CD players to choose from these days so my options were pretty slim. I like this player because it is skinny and does not take up much room. I don't care too much for the front loading CD, but I can deal with it as it is better than having a big huge boombox taking up room on her dresser. This player also has AM/FM stereo and an antenna. This player works for what I need it for, a nursery. If you are looking for super high quality sound this player probably isn't for you. I think it sounds fine, but it does not have "bass" and all of that.

pretty good overall
(4 out of 5) by ChrisB on Feb 6, 2007 (New England)Was not aware when I purchased this that it was only mono playing - I didn't know they even made that anymore - so some stereo sound from the disc is lost. But decent overall, especially for the price.
