I love mine

(4 out of 5) by just me on Nov 24, 2006 (colorado)
I don't understand the other review. I have one of these in grey and I love it. I tuck it into my lunchbox or purse. I have used it to check out wildlife in the mountains, boats on the ocean, people at the pool on the other side of the resort, even to read the names on the uniforms of the pitchers warming up on the other side of the ballpark. I admit it took some getting used to in order to quickly find what you are looking for but I learned quickly. I have trouble with double vision with regular binoculars and this works much better for me. In fact, I have taken great pictures by holding it in front of the lens of my digital camera. It is so small and lightweight, and if you get the hang of it, it is a fantastic tool.

Audubon Monocular

(5 out of 5) by J. Chambers on May 27, 2008
This product is light and compact, sturdy, and easy to carry. May be carried around neck with lanyard, in pocket, or in very functional belt pouch.
I have found this monocular to be easy to focus with ample clarity, even in fairly dim light.
Some have complained re. difficulty holding the monocular steady which is no more of a problem with this as opposed to any other monocular. I find that simply holding it in my fist with index finger and thumb encircling ocular piece and with index finger plessed against my brow that the monocular acts as a steady extension of my eye, turning as my head turns. This also works with glasses on, but significantly cuts down on field of view due to the ocular lens being some distance from your eye.
Anyway, used correctly this is a very tough and efficient viewing instrument. I have purchased several for myself, friends and family. All have functioned equally well. I highly recommend this item.Audubon 6x16 Monocular

Bird's eye views in a pocket

This monocular is better than or equal to my full size binoculars. Its compact and I find I carry it more often. Its i big hit with my fellow trail blazers! [...]

Not bad for the price but not great.

I've had this scope for about 1 year. It works fairly well but don't expect a really sharp focus. Small size while convientent makes it hard to hold steady. Longer one might be better. It seems no matter how much you adjust the eyepiece it is always a little out of focus. I disagree with the description and find the field actually quite narrow. Seems overpriced compared to others on Amazon but you might be paying for the name. To be honest the reason I came across this product again and decided to write a review was I was looking for a better one.

This item is useless.

Wow! A 6X monocular that is only 2 1/2 inches long and wieghs only 2.2 ounses! It sounds too good to be true. In fact, it is too good to be true. Imagine trying to hold a 2 1/2 inch object steady so the image doesn't shake. Then imagine trying to hold it steady while you have to turn it 3/4 to a complete revolution while trying to get it into focus. Trust me, it can't be done. What makes matters worse is that the optics are terrible. The image never comes into crisp focus and it is dark due to the small objective lense. I am surprised that Audubon allows thier name to be placed on such bad optics. This item really is useless. If you don't care if the optics are crummy then buy a $10 monocular on ebay (it will probably be much better than this one). If you want good optics then I recomend looking at the Brunton monoculars. They are slightly larger, but the image will be better than most compact binoculars.
