This product came exactly as promised, and seems to be of pretty good quality for what it is. I have no big problems with it so far.
COMPLETELY SATISFIED
Before buying this product I did my homework and according to what I read the Metra 99-5716 was the way to go if I wanted to install the radio I had in my previous car to my 2001 Taurus. I am so happy with how this Kit brought they joy of listening to my favorite CDs once again. I recommend this product to anyone who is considering upgrading their radio.

This kit requires wiring modification in 2004-up Tauruses
Since no other reviewer mentions this issue yet, I thought I could add to the discussion.
The 2000-2007 Taurus' dash opening all have the same size and shape, which led me to believe that this kit would work in my 2005.
However, this model (99-5716) is different from the newer model (99-5717) in one important way that is not mentioned on this product page: starting with 2004 models, the factory dash unit includes a "Passenger Airbag Off" indicator light. The airbag light is part of the factory radio wiring harness, and this kit wasn't designed with a replacement indicator light (the newer 99-5717 includes an LED in the upper right corner).
Installing this kit in a 2004-07 Taurus breaks the passenger airbag light circuit, and the car's airbag warning light comes on in the speedometer cluster. Various web page forums claim that this may deactivate the passenger airbag completely, but it at least makes the airbag warning light useless since it's always on.
One can make this kit work in a later Taurus, with some modification to complete the passenger airbag light circuit. (for one discussion of the required mod, go to [...] -- proceed at your own risk)
Another disappointment: the supposedly DIN-sized opening (where the aftermarket radio goes in) was almost 1/8" too large--I had to make some plastic bushings to keep the new stereo from bouncing around in the opening.
Aside from these issues, I can confirm several things mentioned in other reviews:
-- plastic body looks fine, though glossier than factory unit
-- during installation, the power lead for the climate control backlighting popped out of the kit-side wiring harness. I got it pushed back in, but be careful.
-- there is a bracket inside the dash opening that holds the back of the factory unit. I did have to remove this to get my deeper Sony CD player to fit, and it's still *very* tight in the back. Choose your replacement radio carefully, and bear in mind any added depth from RCA plugs for preamp outputs or auxiliary inputs.
I can't compare this kit to other brands, which probably have their own shortcomings. I made this kit work, and most others who would try to install their own car stereos probably could too. But it should have fit better out of the box, and should have indicated that this kit is for the 2000-2003 Taurus, not simply 2000-up.
