Pretty good so far
i bought this about 2 weeks ago, watched 3-4 movies so far, picture is great, even from an angle, snound through the speakers isn't very good, but only because its small compared to the room, so it doesnt really fill it up, but its awsome with headphones, i didn't have to adjust anything volume/picture-wise (base, treble, light, dark etc.) you can't fast-forward/reverse on the unit, only change scenes, but you can from the remote, although the buttons on the unit seem kind of cheep, and it's pretty loud when loading, and kind of loud when playing, but with headphones, not loud enough (when playing) to notice/care. so all in all, im pretty satisfied, but still uncertain as to whether it will last a long time, but it seems like it, so i'll keep it as long as it doesnt brake.

My player is JUNK
I used this player 7 times in 8 months the manufacture date is April 2004 and every time I play a dvd on it, it plays for 15 to 20 minutes then freezes.
I called Magnavox for support and they told me to clean the laser. I cleaned the laser and it still does the same thing, and I was told it is no longer warranteed. I spent nearly $400 for a player that I used less than 10 times and the company wouldn't repair or replace it. BEWARE!!!!

I have no sound..wanna trade?
Someone else here has no picture...well I have no sound. Sound works out of the headphone jack but not from the built-in speakers. We've had it for about 9 months and it's always been kept in a case and rarely moved from the back seat of the car. It does get VERY hot and you need to be careful not to just shut the movie off and close the top as it's really NOT OFF. It has no auto-shut off so very early on I discovered it would continue to spin away until you actually turn the physical switch off unlike a notebook computer etc. Also the controls are terrible in layout and design. Even the volume switch is reverse of the intuitive motion. When sitting in front of the unit you would think upwards is louder...not according to Magnavox designers! No up is down and down is up. Outstanding!

Should have read the reviews
This DVD player was such a disappointment. It was literally used lightly 3 times and the screen stopped working. It wasnt handled roughly by any means and the screen just went out. The sound and dvd still played but there was no picture. I adjusted the screen a couple of times and it then worked but it no longer works at all. We paid 400.00 for this player and it worked for 2 months and three times. Save your money.

Great quality DVD player when it works
We started off with a lot of bad luck. We received the portable DVD-player just before our vacation and it was broken. We took the manufacturers advise, had it checked for $10 and be told that the DVD player cannot be fixed. We freaked. A $350 DVD player that doesn't work. We called Magnavox, which is simply Philips, one of the worlds biggest electronic companies. You expect a good service but instead we were surprised. We could send it back. We had to pay for the transportation costs and if we were lucky we would get a new one within the next 3 weeks. I was shocked. There was warranty on this product and the malfunctioning was beyond our fault. What a bad service! In my desperation I contacted Amazon.com. I want to give them ***** stars for their service. They send us a new one before our vacation. Free shipping. The broken one I send back for free as well. No costs involved!!! The kids were happy, we were happy and I know that I will buy with Amazon.com again. But a Magnavox/Philips product? I don't think so. Since all the products are so similar and the price ranges are very close I think a company like Philips or Sony should at least stick above the rest by giving an excellent service in case their products don't work.
In the meantime we have enjoyed the portable DVD player. Sometimes it has trouble reading the DVD's. We shut it down and start it again and most of the times the problem seems to be solved. 8" is a good size DVD-player and makes it possible for the kids to view it well from where they are sitting in the car. The screen quality is good, sound is not perfect but we hook the kids to headphones and that works well. Overall it doesn't seem to be a bad product ... when it works.
