Great entry to theater

(5 out of 5) by Spaulding on Aug 30, 2005 (UTAH)
I use theses with the 150's, 550h towers, sa-wm500 sub. I can crank these (after some breaking in) and no shrill honk or distortion. Crystal clear sound and great looking gloss black cabnit.

I wish they had binding posts like the towers but hey unless you have fits of rage and tear through your stuff, the wires will stay firmly in place.

Great budget speaker and these sony (of canada) speakers are much better than past models. Give em a chance you wont be sorry.

(this review intended for people in market for "entry level" speakers high end snobs need not reply) of course $500-$5000 speakers are better.

excellent reasonable cost center channel

(5 out of 5) by R. Hildebrand on Jun 12, 2006 (Bellingham, WA USA)
I bought this unit to fill out my 7.1 surround system. I have Polk Monitor 10's as front channel speakers and 2 pair of Monitor 5's and R10's for the four surround channels. The performance of the Polk recommended center channel just did not seem to justify it's cost for me, ( especially at almost triple the Sony ) which works amazingly well! The Sony tweeter is smooth and works seemlessly with the Polk's - not shrill or raspy - and the 5.25" woofers crank out solid enough lows for a center channel. As the other reviewer stated - these aren't megabuck audiophile sound pounders - but I've listened to a lot movies and DVD audio on this system - and it's smooth musical sound and clarity easily compares to friends setups that cost double or MUCH more ( power is via a Sony STR DE-998 7 channel x 120 watt Receiver which is also a bargain for what you get including video upconversion from RCA inputs to composite / S-video output )

Awsome Sound - Small Size

(5 out of 5) by Johnna Fisher on Dec 7, 2006 (Washington DC)
I tried a few 'center' channel speakers and was surprised how great this one sounded. I've used it for over six months in a medium sized 7.1 surround array. I like the fact this speaker is neither too bass nor treble sounding, just perfect to my ears, offering a clear center channel image. It's size and price were too good for me to pass up and is one of the electronic purchases I have made that I consider a good one.

Great performance at reasonable price.

(5 out of 5) by James D. Madden on Apr 6, 2007 (Colorado Springs, Colorado United States)
I was in the market for a center channel speaker to replace an older JBL center speaker. Long term I would like to invest in refinishing my basement and setting up a high-end surround system. But, for now, I only wanted to spend $100 or less for good quality. I found just that in the Sony SS-CN550H center speaker. I am no audio expert, I only know what sounds good to me and have been very please with the performance of this speaker. I recommend this speaker for anyone in need of a reasonably priced speaker with great performance.

Excellent speaker

(5 out of 5) by G. Rahe on Jul 13, 2006 (Key West, FL)
Upgraded my surround sound system from the micro speakers that came with my Sony str-k750p and the results are incredible.

Bought the 550 series for center and front L/R speakers and the 330 series for Surround L/R and can not be happier with performance and the PRICE from Amazon with no tax and free shipping!

***Remember to reset your receiver to Large from the factory setting of micro speaker to take full advantage of the three way design.

Now if sony will only make a 5.1 or 6.1 receiver with 3 optical inputs.
