Dead pixels, bad tuner
The tuner on my LCD is awful. White stripes going across the screen all the time. It delivers the same result using the Composite signal (A/V). Using the component (Cr, Cb, Y) gives a decent image only, but it is not HDTV, so forget about the Progressive scan DVD players. It will work as a computer monitor only if your video card detects it right, otherwise you will end up with black lateral regions without image. Not a good buy. Moreover, the company will only exchange the monitor for you if you have more than 3 dead pixels. Mine came with 4 to 6 bad pixels - lucky me! Absurd!
Excellent monitor / TV
I wanted the ability to watch TV on my computer and at first I got a TV tuner card with remote etc, what an awful idea, software would hang up remote would not work etc.
The planar XP17W has been exceptional, the ease of using the remote with out necessarily having the computer turned on. It has great picture quality with the basic built-in speakers. I added better logitech speakers.
I haven't had any stripes or other issues with the tuner. I also plugged a small coby progressive scan DVD player and had no problems with the image.
There's also something to be said about them offering a 3 year standard warranty, which others don't. I thought I'd need it but fortunately never had to use it as it's probably a better product. Support has also been great, I lost the remote and they sent another one for free.

No problems, but could be better.
I like my planar TV and have had it for a year now with no problems. It's not my main TV (I use a Kreisen), but it works well if I want to watch TV and don't need a big screen.
I agree with the other reviewer that the progressive scan feature was not functional with my unit and that the dark screens look horrible unless the contrast is turned up high.
On the other hand, I can watch old TV shows on it and movies if I am not interested in a really fantastic picture. I have the Kreisen for that!
It's a more than acceptable small TV for using for broadcast TV.
