Sharp DTA-3500 a good buy

(5 out of 5) by J. Cowgill on Nov 9, 2006 (Winston-Salem, NC USA)
This is a good antenna. It recieves the high definition signals in Winston-Salem very well. The ability of it change the direction of where it points electronically saved me from having to install a roter and solved the programing of channel problems I was having. - JCC

Good but....

(3 out of 5) by Whisper on Nov 24, 2008 (Connecticut)
This is a nicely made antenna which will be unobtrusive when mounted outside. It has 4 robust telescoping elements which pull out from the body 67 inches tip to tip. It has an indoor control box with remote which allows you to "rotate" it in 45 degree steps. I put quotes around "rotate" because it does this electrically- not physically turning as with a rotor. While it can be rotated using the remote control it is NOT a Smart Antenna which is rotated (usually in smaller steps) in a similar fashion under the control of a Digital TV converter such as the Tivax STB-T8. The DTA 3500 does NOT HAVE the control connector needed by a Smart Antenna.
It has an amplifier mounted in the antenna that is effective in increasing signal strength. The Amp can be turned off with the remote control to avoid overload with strong signals. It will then pass the unamplified signal through. The on/off control is directly addressable- not toggled.
It compares well to an indoor set top antenna but falls far short when compared to a good amplified rooftop antenna. I am in Connecticut- about 70 miles from the New York stations whch come in well with my rooftop rig but are totally invisible to the DTA 3500. From the stations it gets from here I would estimate the DTA 3500 has an effective range of about 40-45 miles.
Overall- I think it deserves 3 or 4 stars- as a pretty good suburban antenna, well made, and attractive looking (as antennas go). It will not satisfy those looking for good long distance reception.

Worked so well I bought a 2nd one

(5 out of 5) by David A. Folkner on Jul 19, 2008
I live in a valley with mountains between my house and the different TV transmission towers. So, I have had cable for 40 years. I bought this for my daughter who lives near the stations. Being a gadget fancier, I had to try it out before I gave it to her. Just placing it inside the house near a window, it picked up 14 different channels. The price was a steal. I then bought a 2nd one for use on an RV.

Good product at a great price

(4 out of 5) by John Berry on Jul 21, 2008 (Tulsa, OK)
Installed antenna in the attic and connected to a pre-existing cable setup for the house. Have signal going to 3 different outlets and it works good (I am also using the digital converter boxes at the tv location). Having problems with one TV station, but it is in the attic and I need to move it into a better location in the attic. I am sure it would have a much stronger signal if I installed on the roof. Overall I am satisfied with the product.

FYI the antenna does NOT include the mast pole shown above or mounting brackets. I took down an old satellite antenna from my roof and used the mounting unit off of it.

It Works

(5 out of 5) by Rodney E. Colling on Jul 9, 2008 (Mebane, NC USA)
Simply said, this antenna works. It was super easy to install. Worked first time right out of the box. It does everything the manufacturer says it will do. In Mebane NC I pulled in 32 channels. It's low profile design avoids the wind and is hardly noticable. The internal rotor clears up fuzzy channels with no special wiring. Set up up is just plain simple.
Less than thirty bucks, free shipping, and it works. What more could anybody want.
