file sharing problematic

(1 out of 5) by whitlite on Jun 7, 2007
Was never able to reestablish file sharing while using this router. Tried various fixes. Was using XP on desktops and laptops. Was told they offer no support for file sharing. Sought advice elsewhere. None of it worked. Returned the item.

Great router for the price

(4 out of 5) by Edward Mon on Apr 9, 2009 (SF Bay Area)
Worked great for what I needed it for and has been very stable, for the price. Needed a cheap router for setting up an office for hotel style offices. Setup was pretty easy and simple VLAN setup was easy as well which I needed. Have not really used any of the other advanced features such as multiple WANs or DMZ yet. I too am familiar with Watchguard, for this situation the RV016 was MUCH cheaper and easier to setup and I did not have to deal with Watchguard's stupid licensing issues. The down side was the combined total ports of 16 but only needed 12 so not a big problem.

Very good device

(4 out of 5) by Alex on Feb 11, 2009
I have 13 computers in my office, and 2 ISP; my cisco linksys RV016 manages both internet service.

I would like this device comes with 10/100/1000 as price of 10/100.

This is worst ever thing I get hands on

(1 out of 5) by S. Rana on Nov 14, 2007 (Seattle, WA USA)
I managed to get 5 WAN ADSL/PPOE lines added to it. All in all 10MBit but it used only one of the WAN and I was not able to use multiple WAN feature in any way I can. Connections drop often. I did everything on Server:
-change lan card speed to 10MB full duplex after reading from forums
-added a new lan card

Look at other places but do not go for this product :(

Very unstable and getting worse

(1 out of 5) by dealin on Nov 12, 2005
I have had this router for over a year now and have had nothing but trouble. each firmware version fixes old bugs and adds new ones. I have spent countless hours with their technical support team with NO luck. If you get a hold of an honest technical support person at linksys they will even admit this router is very buggy. Most are trained to sound like this is the first time they ever heard the bug you are describing. With the latest firmware they finally got the IPSEC to be somewhat stable but now the router resets the network every so often. I think somewhat related to making a PPTP connection. This reset crashes my client server app.
I upgraded this from a linksys vp41 - why I now question. that is a very low cost VPN router that actually works. Whatever you do - do not waste your time with this product. I wish I had not.
