Works PERFECTLY for me
Now I know what you are going to say...a psychic should know when bad weather is coming..well I usually do. However, when I am fast alseep, that is another story....I recently moved to tornado country, and wanted an alarm system so that I would be aware of the storms in the middle of the night. Within days of purchasing this radio, it alerted me to a tornado around 1:30AM. I have had NO PROBLEMS AT ALL with this radio, it came to me in perfect condition.I easily programmed it myself (just turn off the weather alert switch to not hear the beeping), called NOAA for my SAME channels, and all was well, it only took about 5 minutes to have it up and running. This is a MUST HAVE for those who live where dangerous weather conditions exist. My only (STRONG) suggestion is to read all of the instructions carefully first! There are two receptacles on the rear where the AC plug can fit in, make sure it is in the correct one, or the unit will only run on battery , and when the battery runs out, no alarm system! I have had no trouble with this radio, and highly recommend it!Maybe being psychic helped me program it (That was a joke folks....) If you live where there is dangerous weather, and you want a dependable home based unit....BUY IT!

Best purchase this year
We have NO warning in Gwinnett County, GA and they have ignored my repeated requests for Sirens. I bought this gem and it sits quietly in the background until there is a severe weather alert for the counties I programmed and then I am roused to action by a really decent alarm. Not just weather, but for all manner of emergencies it will alert me. Easy to program, I can't believe I didn't already own this little gem. It even has battery back up so when I grab it, to take with me to the basement, it will keep on working.

Pleased with purchase
I am very pleased with this radio. After owning it about six months, I purchased more to give as Christmas gifts. My mother called me a couple of days ago saying the weather looked fine, but the alert had gone off. Soon other sources confirmed the tornado watch! She was very grateful to be alerted.
It has not only alerted me to weather, one time an amber alert came across it. I didn't have the news on and didn't know about it. It was neat to see it work for a non-weather alert! And I was able to keep an eye out for the suspicious vehicle.
My son's preschool didn't have one, and had it on their wish list; so I donated one to them. It made me feel better knowing his teachers would be alert to weather conditions and public alerts.
Recently I upgraded to the 300 model. I thought I wanted a volume control for that loud alert. I realized though that if I had it in my bedroom and turned it down so it wouldn't wake up the children, then during the day time I'd never hear it downstairs. So I have the more expensive radio, and decided NOT to turn it down. I put the radio downstairs, so I can hear it on both floors (I awaken to noise easily), but it is less likely to wake up sleeping children. Though this spring I may enter the codes to cover all alerts EXCEPT marine warnings. It goes off for that A LOT, and I am not a boater!
I think it is a great radio, especially for the price!

S.A.M.E. Weather Radio
The above radio is very practicle in that it alarms only for the county or counties you select which could endanger you if a weather system hit your area. The sound of a bell ringing at the beginning, is important to gain your attention. I'm very pleased with the operation of this unit.

Midland SAME Weather Radio
I've been through one actual weather watch and two local tests since setting the unit up. So far, everything works as expected. The only improvement needed is simplification of the set up procedure, specifically the sequence of the menu and select funtions and process. Once I figured that out, things went great. My wife and I love having access to weather alerts for only the counties where weather events most likely put us at imminent risk. The source of our weather alerts is located such that we used to get numerous alerts that didn't require vigilence on our part.
