4.5 stars, actually...

Good buy. I hate spending ridiculous amounts of money on portable CD players with the radio, car attachment, etc. Do we really need those? Guess some people do. I didn't so didn't want to pay for stuff I don't use. Anyhow...

This is a reasonable price for a great little piece of machine. Sony has always been a brand to trust for these gadgets and they live up to the name here.

I agree the volume buttons are too small but the other buttons are placed quite nicely to reduce accidently bumping them. Other cool features:

- when you hit stop, it will return to where you left off when you hit play again.

- extra bass settings to give you a bit more.

- decent headphones that look like headsets for cell phones which comes in handy when, well, you need to look like you're using a headset.

- nice, compact size.

- not advocating loudness, but has a higher range than previous models, without sacrificing quality of sound.

-and battery life! I have been using the same AA batteries for over eight hours. Don't know if it's the batteries (and they aren't Duracell or Energizer) but they have been going for hours on end. Most other CD players I've had burn through them in no time. This one doesn't.

- and if you are looking for one more good reason, there is a 'hold' button on the bottom that disables all of the buttons so you won't accidently turn it off or fast forward or something.

If you're looking for a good CD player for a decent price, this one fits the bill.

Well Done Sony

I have had this walkman for only two weeks and I am definately not returning it. I love music and I wanted a great walkman and I found it. This model is a good buy because the remote is handy and no matter how much the walkman shakes and bumps I still get a crystal clear sound. There is only one con to the sony psyc walkman, the volume buttons on the main thing are too small. The remote volume buttons are bigger than the the ones on the walkman. I strongly recommend this walkman!!!!!

"Psyc" me out

(5 out of 5) by A.T. DeLeon on Nov 24, 2004 (Virginia, United States)
I actually get very surprised when Sony comes out with a new "Psyc" cd player design every year because of the improvements that Sony makes. This year, the design is more thinner and is more of a circle shape with the buttons on top of the cd player rather than on the side. The best part is the new addition of the attached remote control so you can change the tracks while it's in your pocket.

This new design is great and I have not had any problems with it at all. This year I think Sony made the "Psyc" cd player pocket friendly so that you wouldn't have to hold it in your hand because the cd does not skip while it's playing in your pocket. One more thing to mention, it's a very good price for an excellent cd player!

Excellent

This is a fantastic item. Got it for my 19 yr old daughter for Christmas. Had to find something in her taste and my price range. This fits the bill. Great sound, great headphones, she loves the remote control and the color too. Highly recommend it.

much better than had anticipated

I bought this CD player about 5 days ago and while it is very good, there were two things that I thought should be mentioned. One is that every time you pause your CD, it makes a loud, piercing beeping noise until you un-pause it, which is no huge factor, but it can become quite irritating after awhile. Second, the volume is either at a low decible or muted, which is also not huge, but on my previous player, it had a scroll type volume controller, which I think is better than buttons.
But, despite those two factors, Sony's Psyc CD player is a very good piece of equipment.
