CD Player Quit

(1 out of 5) by Dave on Aug 6, 2005 (TX)
My GX450 was only a few months old and the CD player quit. The unit sounded great but it's just a radio and cassette player now. This is the 3rd Sony product I have had that has had the CD player quit. I'd recommend staying away from Sony until they get the quality issues resolved. Based on a few other reviews it looks like the CD player problems are frequent.

I also contacted Sony support online. Since this was a gift I have no receipt....so no warranty.

For those who have this unit and this problem, you can hook up a separate CD player to the Game input. Just don't buy the Sony CE375...I've looked at it on the Amazon site....guess what...someone has had problems with it playing CD's!! Imagine that.

Get the version WITHOUT the subwoofer!

(2 out of 5) by Bill O-Dilley on Aug 29, 2005 (omaha, nebraska)
The sub that this system comes with is just HORRIBLE! If you turn the volume up past 15 (maximum is 30) it becomes unbearably boomy, totally drowning out the speakers and giving you a headache.

Since there is no independent volume control for this sub, you're stuck with this awful noise...there seems to be a high pass filter because the speakers don't deliver much bass at all, they're probably crossed over at 100 Hz or above.

I finally arrived at an improvised improvement: I turned the sub on its back so the woofer was pointing upwards at the ceiling, stuffed its front port with a sock, and draped a heavy towel over it to dampen the horrible muddy and overpowering bass. This helped somewhat but I wish Sony had just spent the extra money for the sub to simply provide better full-range speakers.

Other than that the electronics are OK for a minisystem, you get decent volume just not great sound quality but for this price range that's about all you can expect. Now I wish I had just spent say an extra two hundred and bought some cheap components instead of an all-in-one system like this.
