Very nice, affordable system

(4 out of 5) by Jordan on Sep 16, 2005 (FL, USA)
I bought this stereo after debating between it and the similar Panasonic model. All I can say is I love it! It's very clean and cool looking, unlike some other brands. It has more features than any other equivalent model on the market, and although a few of them are a little bit difficult to use, that is to be expected and can be overcome by remembering a few button functions. Sound is very good. One review said there is no independent controls for the subwoofer. This is not true, and there is a very convenient button that lets you adjust the low (subwoofer bass), mid (vocals) and high(treble) sound all independently. I've turned the sound up to 22 out of 30, and the sound remains quite clear. Overall, I think it's a very well-made system and very reasonably priced.

My ratings:
Quality: 4.5
Looks: 5
Features: 5
Sound: 4.5
Ease of use: 4
Overall: 4.5

Incredible!

(5 out of 5) by Brandon Alexander on Aug 2, 2004 (Inver Grove Heights, MN)
I just bought this stereo from Circuit City for $189. It took me like five minutes to set it up. I plugged my PS2 into the A/V input and popped in DDRMAXX (Dance Dance Revolution Maxx) and put it on the Dance EQ. Even though I have carpet ( which is not recommended for best performance for the sub) it sounded awesome! The room literally shook. Great for when you watch a movie or play your PS2 ( or any other console system, even... ( sigh) XBOX...). 5 Star.

dont waste your money

Bought first unit from Best Buy and it lasted 6 mos. Tried to replace it under service warranty because CD's skipped terribly on all CD's, new and used. BB didn't carry the unit anymore so I bought another at Walmart. It lasted about 12 months and the same problem occurred.

I like the sound for the money but the quality is very poor and it is consistent with the poor quality of Sony customer service. They said I should send it back to them, at great expense, and they would repair it. The last one I sent back to Best Buy cost them $69.00 in shipping.

Stay away from this unit.

Lasted almost 9 months!

Piece of cr@p!. Brought it to a local (SONY authorized service center who, after having it for 6+ weeks, called to say that they couldn't fix it and that SONY wouldn't send them the parts. They said that SONY wanted me to pick it up from the local service center and bring it to a UPS store to mail to them (for $> 25 shipping and handling). I emailed SONY to ask why they wouldn't authorize shipping directly from their authorized local service center. I got a canned response back (in under two minutes) that they didn't think they could resolve my issue by email. Obviously they have a natural language processing program (a computer program that trys to figure out what you want) that works about as well as this product. (Here's what they sent me: "We apologize for the difficulties you are experiencing. Unfortunately, based on the information in your letter we will be unable to resolve your issue through email. It appears that your product requires service. The location of our Sony service center, as well as any available local, Sony authorized, service centers, is available online at..." )

I replied to the email and got no response.

Since I didn't want my daughter to have to go another 6 weeks with a stereo in her room, I am going to call it loss and buy her another system today. And definitely not a SONY!!!!!!
