I have had my share of headphones, I had a pair of Aiwa
HP-X233's that were roughly the same price as these KOSS UR19s but a headphone blew because I turned on my CD player with max volume on nearly blowing an eardrum and blowing a speaker in my headphones. Anyways thats when I bought the UR19s decent price at BB about 25 bucks, I liked that they were collapsable... However I had them for a day and realised they played music very softly.. Plugged into my Laptop listening to a DVD I had to crank the volume all the way up to get good sound, likewise with my MP3 player I lost the pair that came with them so I thought these would be a suitable replacement. On my old headphones the sound was good and loud at 20-25, with these KOSS headphones I had to crank it up to max volume(40!) to get decent but sub-par sound. Another complaint I have about these headphones is that instead of the thick Single cord coming out of one side it has the split cord design, which I think is a hassle and gets tangled more often. I am returning these headphones and driving to a different store that sells the KOSS ur20's I had a pair of those also, much better product in my opinion.
Junk.
Surprisingly comfortable, nice design, but ultimately the sound is weak and hollow. Almost no bass. Will turn your favorite music to mush. Steer clear.
Comfortable, but sound quality is too hollow.
Bottom line - only buy these if you have small ears. It has a good frequency range and can hit some nice bass notes (I listen to film soundtracks which have a wide variety of sounds, with some pretty deep bass sometimes).
However, the richness of the sound isn't there. To reproduce what you'll hear with these headphones, just take a decent pair of headphones or even just a phone receiver and hold them/it just a half-inch away from your ears. You can still hear the sound and it should still sound "good" (no fuzziness in the sound at all), but it's just hollow-sounding.
I've noticed that if I press the ear pieces against my ears firmly, I can hear the sound quality that I'm looking for, but that's just not acceptable for me to have to do that. So either I have too-large ears or these earpieces are just too padded and are keeping my ears a little too far away from the audio. Who knows? I'm debating whether to take these back or not - like I said, the sound quality is there, but it's just too far away. I'm guessing that someone with smaller ears would have an easier time getting their ears closer to the audio, and thus, get the rich sound quality that these headphones offer.
After trying out the Aiwa headphones, too, I think I will just buy another pair of my previous Jensen JF25 headphones. The only trouble I had with them was I accidentally broke one of the plastic pieces holding the earpiece in place. Great sound quality for $15 with those Jensen headphones, though.
Great Headphones
What are these other reviewers talking about? These headphones are great (for the price). You can't get more bang for the buck. If you want something entry level, comfortable and very affordable with good sound then look no further. On the other hand if you want high end like these other reviewers assumably are into, then these aren't for you and move away from the $20 categories!
Comfortable, butdesign ultimately takes down potential sound
I got these headphones at the airport store for 30 bucks because I desperately needed some headphones for the plane ride. These do come with a lifetime warranty but they really arent that great. You really have to crank the volume to get some sound out of these. As mentioned by several other reviewers, these are just plain hollow sounding. The sound is almost there but i find vocals to lack. The collapsobility is a great feature but there's no box provided to put these in and if they're so inadequate with portable devices (mp3 players and cd players) then there's no point for that feature. I guess if you have a wider head and smaller ears then you won't get the hollow sound. As stated before, if you press the headphones against your ears, then you get normal non-hollow sound. There's no real crispness for these and they don't create a lively soundstage at all. But for 30 dollars this isn't too excusable. For a mere 10 bucks more, you can get some senheisser px100's or px200's or hd212 or even 202's from amazon. But if you got them for 15 bucks, then I guess it's an ok deal. Thank god that store was a large chained sam goody so i can return these and get some senheissers. But they lasted the plane trip so they served their purpose.
