End of a happy dream

(1 out of 5) by M. R. Heveran on May 15, 2004 (Jupiter, Florida USA)
I really beleived in Toshiba. We had 1 TV that lasted 15 years without a single problem. This model was exactly what I wanted,
for about 3 months. The DVD player quit. Into the authorized repair shop, 6 weeks and the parts were still not available. I suggested it should be replaced. I shipped mine back, $120.00, and they shipped a new set. Great service I thought. The DVD has quit again 6 months later. I quit! I can't face another fight or expensive return. Skip this model!

Superb TV, worst remote

(4 out of 5) by N. Singh on Sep 20, 2004 (NJ, USA)
I bought this TV about 2 months ago. The picture quality is fantastic, truely real colors. I have 2 other TVs and this one simply stands out in terms of picture quality - its picture quality is truely exceptional. Its got lot of useful functions too, especially the alarm(daily, weekly, weekend etc) TOP 5 STARS!!

I won't appreciate the sound system 'coz it is very low-end when sound is compared...absolutely no bass, speakers distort at high volume -they really could have amplified the sound system the give out righer bass. 3 STARS!!

But the worst is yet to come - the REMOTE!! It sucks!
I guess they we're totally exhausted at the time of designing it. Nothing seems to be in sync, no ease of use. Most of the remote(even the cheapest ones) would atleast differentiate sound and channel buttons, but here they're not. Some of the buttons are really hard to find for their functionality. Moreover, each button has more than one function and it is always confusing to get to the right function, expecially when using DVD player controls. You might wanna buy an after market remote for easy use. Absolutely NO STARS!!

great system

(4 out of 5) by Talon on Aug 29, 2004 (Massachusetts)
I bought this combination TV/DVD/VCR 2 months ago. No problems with the system - great video and sound, no problems with either the VCR or DVD.
The only feature I am disappointed in is the inability to watch a different TV station while recording on the VCR. Because the VCR functions are linked with the TV functions, you cannot change the channel to view another station while recording on the VCR.

So Far, VERY GOOD

(4 out of 5) by Chris Andrews on Jan 12, 2005 (Massachusetts)
I upgraded from a 13" TV/VCR combo to this 3 way combo and have been very impressed after 3 months of occasional use. The best features of this unit are the excellent picture and sound quality & the simplicity of having everything together (no wires to mess with). The downside is that the remote control is rather crowded and takes quite some time to be comfortable with. Also, this is a heavy unit & awkward to move. I was somewhat wary of the overall quality of this Toshiba before purchase (based on others' reviews) and nervous that the DVD player would be too delicate. Having been very careful, I have not yet had a problem. So Far, VERY GOOD Overall. Certainly better picture quality that an LCD screen. I

all of it works! (updated)

(4 out of 5) by Joe's Welding on Oct 9, 2005 (East Texas United States)
I've had this for 2 years so far. It plays VHS tapes okay and the DVDs look great. The tape recorder works well too, and there is even a feature to copy a DVD to VHS - providing the DVD is not copy protected, which nearly all of them are!

DO NOT THROW AWAY THE BOOK! Some of the features you'd never figure out unless you used the book to tell you how it's done.

It has neat features like timer on and off features, but these reset to zero (0) if the electricity goes off.

If anything, I wished they made one of these with a Hard Drive and a DVD-Recorder! Now *that* would be awsome!

Subject: all of it works!, part 2

It has now been 4 years, and this unit still performs flawlessly! I use it as my alarm clock to wake me up in the morning to one of the local news stations, to snooze off to sleep to TV to at night, record my favorite programs onto VHS, and watch a DVD on.

This unit is fantastic! I do not understand why other people are having such a tough time with it.

Technology is leaving it behind, though. Now I'd like to get something with a recordable DVD drive, maybe a built in hard drive to use like a Tivo unit, and an LCD screen. But that's all just Butter (not necessary, just tastes good), so I'll probably hang on to this unit for another couple of years.
