We have the earlier model D680 which is very similar to the D780. The D680 also copies at 16 pages/min and may be used as a printer and fax. Our office uses it mainly as a copier. It is not the fastest but no problems in three years of 5x8 use. Occasionally we use the fax capability when our dedicated fax machine conks out. The D680 uses the same toner cartridge as the D780 and the newer D880. We have to replace the cartridge every month or two. The L50 cartridges can be expensive. We get ours from InfinityImaging.com or Provantage.com.

Two out of three ain't bad - but isn't great either

I purchased two of these machines for two of our remote offices.

As a fax machine, there have been zero complaints, as a printer, they frequently have software issues. In particular, when we try to share these machines on our network, the print drivers don't run well on the client machines. We run Win XP Pro in our offices. This device feels like a solid fax machine, with print services thrown on as an after-thought.

Previous to this, we had purchased the HP 4100 print / fax / copier and we had awful luck with the fax function. The HP feels like a solid printer that had a fax modem thrown on it.

I wish someone would build one of these devices that can handle all services well.

Fast, acurate, options, network able, clean, efficient and a low cost basis for what you get is great.

This machine works better than expected pop in the full and complete cartridge and plug it in thats it =+.

Cost comparison works . We read it here and then did it.

Try it.

Only one major problem occured and nopt with the machine. It was with the firm of Canon. They never returned our calls.

Maybe not being an American firm they may have felt they did not have to return calls or eMails.

They do not even have a Toll Call to us either...
