Good KVM switch

(5 out of 5) by N. Salama on Apr

This is my second 4-Port KVM switch, I have had BELKIN f1db104p from my work for about a year, I gave it back then I bought the Zonet 4-ports, Advantages: Zonet has each set of cables to each PC attached together to help minimize the clutter, smaller size, similler features, the beep is actually less loud than the BELKIN, accurate switching back and forth, 25% of the time of switching between PCs the BELIKN would not recongnize the keyboard or mouse but it would show the monitor and I had to push the button on the KVM to switch then switch back to get it to work. This does not happen in the Zonet.
Disadvantages: Cables are connected on every side of the KVM, it is hard to set it down somewhere, no big deal though. The cables are bright white, being a little picky, every the cables will look dirty, BELKIN's were black. Switching takes a bit log, it takes 1-2 seconds to switch between PCs, but it is accurate.
Conclusion: Cheap but good KVM switch, I use P4 PCs with XP PRO and 21" 1600 * 1200 at 85mhz with no issues.

You get what you pay for.

If you are looking for a cheap, functional 4 port KVM, this will fit the bill. Since it includes four sets of cables, the price is even more affordable.
Compared to my previous two port KVM, this one is a little annoying. To switch between computers on my old one, you just had to hit scroll lock twice. To change on this one, you have to hit num-lock twice and then some other key. It would be much more convenient if it would go to the next active computer with just a double key press. Less hand movement over the keyboard.
The second annoying thing is the delay when you switch. With my last one, there was no delay. This one, there is a delay of about 2 seconds. I switch back and forth frequently, so this is very noticable.
Finally, it is not as tolerant at detecting the key presses as I would like. About every third switch I have to hit the key sequence again to get it switched.
Reading reviews of several $60-80 models, this one seems much better. Some day I'll pick up a decent $150 model. But for $40, I can't complain.

Affordable, Functional

I had to replace an older Linksys KVM switch that was acting up, but I didn't want to spend a lot of money if I could avoid it. When I came across this, I was a bit leery since I'd never heard of Zonet. But the price was about half what they want for the Linksys! Plus, it comes with cables! I already had cables, but I could see how this would be great for someone buying their first KVM; cables tend to be expensive.
I've been using this switch for a few days now, and I like it so far. For the price, it's a steal.
Pros:
- The keyboard hotkey for switching between PCs is much easier than my old Linksys. Simply hit NumLock twice, then the PC number.
- Cables included!
Cons:
- Connections on all four sides instead of in the back. This makes the seemingly small switch take up a lot of space once you plug all your cables in. Of course, many manufacturers are doing this now.
- Included cables seem to be a lower quality than I'm used to. I don't know if it could affect the usage however -- they seem to work fine for me. However, one of the 4 cables had bent pins that prevented me from using it.
One final note: All connections on this switch are female, which means your cables all need to be male-male. My old switch had female connections for the mouse and keyboard, but male for the monitor. Because of this, I could not use my existing cables. (Good thing they included cables!)

Excellent KVM Switch

(4 out of 5) by Eric on Jan

I bought this switch to replace a broken Belkin KVM switch. I have a desktop and a laptop in a docking station. Out of the box, it worked perfectly. After I installed the switch, occasionally I would get an error when booting the laptop saying that the power supply voltage from the docking station was unknown. In the instructions that come with the switch, it says to use an external supply in case of problems with laptops. I plugged my old Belkin supply into the KVM switch (it happened to be compatible) and this problem went away. My only complaint is that the KVM switch should come with the supply just in case others run into similar problems.

AWESOME!!!!!!!

You could not ask for more for your money. You can toggle between PC's on the KVM itself, or go directly to a specific PC using hotkeys on the Keyboard. If anyone looking for a 4 port KVM doesn't get get this one, they are crazy!!!
