Great DVD Player, but limited lifespan

(3 out of 5) by J. Kane on May 13, 2004 (Pittsburgh, PA)
I bought this DVD Player almost a year ago. I bought it to replace the Panasonic 5 Disc changer that I put in my basement. The Panasonic did not have the picture quality that I need given my 55" high definition TV so I thought I'd try a Sony. It worked great for the entire year, but now it won't play any DVDs. About two weeks ago, I started having trouble playing a DVD in one or two of the five disc spots, but if I switched them around, I could get it to work. Now I can't play any DVDs on it. I was very happy with the player and I do use it several times a week, but it should last more than a year.

No digital SACD output.

(3 out of 5) by Audrey Frank on Feb 3, 2004 (Jacksonville, fl United States)
Great DVD image quality and sound. Love the changer. I was replacing a 1999 Sony player that finally died.

The exciting new feature for me was SACD 5.1 support. Unfortunately it did not work. SACD is not supported through the digital out of this player. Since my Bose Lifestyle supports 5.1 through digtal only I have to play SACD through my tv.

I'm a little upset because I felt this issue was hidden deep in the manual and never would have expected such a limitation.

The Ulitimate DVD Player!

(5 out of 5) by Bobby Johnson on Jul 26, 2004 (Marysville WA USA)
Considering the average price for most DVD players being only around $39.99 it seems there would be no sense to buying a expensive $200 DVD player unless it had tons of new features. This player does everything a regular cheap DVD player can do and more! Not only can it play DVDs but it can also play CDs as well! Also not only can it hold up to 5 DVDS at a time, but it also allows you to actually switch between discs While one is playing! As if that wasent enough it also features a built in Dolby Digital/DTS decoder and Virtual 3D Surround Sound.A ajustable interface,16.9,4.3 and Fullscreen Viewing options,Several aspect modes including Standered,Dynamic, and Cinema Screen options, and lets you adjust every aspect of your TV,DVDs,and Home Theater Systems. It does not have the Pan and Scan feature, however. There are so many more options that i am just too lazy to mention. The Picture and Sound Quility of this player is exellent. However, the only flaw with this thing is the high freqency sound which sometimes causes ubnormal volume levels.Causing you to have to get up and change the volume more then enough times.Other then that i would say that although it is not the best DVD player on the market. It is full of features that are not available with other DVD Players.
